Ram Mount ball, where to Mount?

I have been reading post on the mounting of cell phone, cb/ham microphones, gps, and so on. As a point of discussion, could a ram mount ball be mounted on the A piller, or grab handle, as in remove a bolt and screw a ram ball in the bolt hole? The CMM mounts are very expensive and the ram ball less then $10.00.

+1 on the Carolina Metal Mounts - great product. Also take a look at the Vector e-Track - mounts RAM balls all across the dash if you want it. I love them.
