Hoping to extend the stock wheel bumpers to hold the spare more firmly, but it now being raised 4.5" that's not going to work. Any other suggestions to make up about a 3.5" gap between the new carrier plate and the tire?
I'd rather not drill and tap into the plate. Any good DIY ideas?

These say they’re for JK but they work on the JL. They’re about 4.5” IIRC , you cut them to length.

The problem is they would be too low and just catch the edge of the tire where it’s rounded.
Copy that, with mine , I can adjust it up and down and in & out.

Easy fix......
1. Measure the distance from the from the tailgate to the tire surface.

2. Purchase small pvc tube pieces that will fit inside the existing rubber pieces. Make sure to get two pieces of pvc tubing at least at that length.

3. Then buy two rubber stoppers that you would use for the chair leg ends for an old chair.

4. Push the pvc into the existing rubber pieces on your Jeep.

5. Confirm the stack up measurement of the components, trim to length.

6. Place the rubber stoppers onto the pvc.

7. You will need to remove your spare tire after you confirm the offset.

8. After install put your spare back.

This worked for mine. Less than $10.

I know that you have a larger space to contend with but I believe it would still work. If not.... it’s just $10.

if you don't want to drill (you don't have to tap the hole) perhaps use a strong rubber cement glue to keep the bumper in place ?

This^^^....... If you get the stops I referenced above, you could cut the nub off flush and use some double sided tape or some adhesive that’s paint friendly. I think it’s big enough so you could raise it enough to hit the tire and also cover the hole from factory stop. The pressure from the spare is going to keep it in place so I don’t think it would fall out even if the tape/adhesive failed
more $.02......:)

Are those 35's? Looks like you have more tire to work with.
