Alright everyone. I haven’t had to do much outside of normal maintenance on my rig. Found a leak on my upper rad hose which I thought was a clamp but I put on a new hose clamp but it still leaks. So I ordered a new hose and receive it today. How in the heck does this clamp open up? Maybe I am missing something but I’m used to the old hose clamps that were just a 8mm to tighten.

Yeah that is the one I was concerned with. The clamp pliers are a big help though. Don’t want to mess with vise grips and slipping.

Those clamps fail with heavy duty use.... I utilize HD constant tension soft hose clamps

Self-clamping spring hose clips. Designed and intended to make engine assembly go a bit faster. I never liked the things due to the dodgy handling and/or specialized pliers required to remove and install them. At the first sign of trouble, said clamps are replaced with quality worm drive equivalents.

My understanding is that worm drive should not be used anymore. Too easy to over torque and damage the modern yet crappy plastic engine parts.

I don't disagree that due care is required when using them in conjunction with plastic couplers, etc. I've had a good run with them in every application where I've used such clamps, so I'm glad they remain an option for us.

Yeah I think that is the issue I was having. I had a small leak at the t section where the egr hose connects. I had it in the shop to get some welding done and they noticed it and replace it with a worm clamp. Leak is still there so it’s either the plastic has a small leak or the worm clamp isn’t keeping equal pressure when the coolant gets hot because that is when it’s leaking. I can drive around town all day but soon as I get on the highway and get the rpm’s up it starts leaking. Hence I ordered an entire hose.

The dealer service department has a device they slip onto these clamps that keeps them open to make service easier. The device is yellow as reminder to remove the device when finished.

Now ask me how I know the dealer has these devices...

I lost all the coolant on a very cold night and didn't realize it until the heater stopped blowing warm. It was the low-pressure side, so it held for a 3-hour drive and then popped off later that evening. I found that device and removed it after reseating the hose, so it was an easy fix, but the vehicle (2014 Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel) was not easy to refill the coolant since there was no radiator cap on the actual radiator.
