Is the stock steering stabilizer that comes with a new JL hydraulic or pneumatic? Short of being broken/damaged, under what circumstances should I upgrade this part? Thanks!

Hydraulic. The reason people choose to replace them are that they wear out like normal shocks, or they prefer one that is valved differently.

or they are throwing their wallet at it hoping that it solve their steering issue without understanding their steering issue

Agree with the above. Another reason is for those looking to relocate the stabilizer to above the tie rod, for added ground clearance. I went with the Fox ts.

Fortunately, my steering is absolutely perfect. I’m running 33s on 4+ inches of lift. My mechanic told me that when I bump up to 35s, I will have to replace the steering stabilizer. Is this true?

Hi Jeff, I would just run it until it gives you trouble, then decide what you want to do. If you want to relocate it to on top of the tie rod, you can still use the factory stabilizer. You just need to ream out the eyelet to 1/2”.

Thanks guys! That’s money I don’t have to spend on a stabilizer that I can spend on another mod.
