What’s the benefit of the catback over the axleback exhaust?

Thanks

Axle back is usually just a tail pipe so no real advantage. Cat back will replace the muffler with a more free flowing muffler in most cases.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
Not sure all the options available for the JL or the 3.6 for that matter, but a true dual exhaust w/ proper crossover piping (to eliminate resonance/harmonics) will typically result in the most gains and best sound.

Again, not sure on the availability but a true dual combined w/ high flow cats (HFCs) would be the best of the best if your state has some emission "flexibility".

Do go on. At least make your posts constructive.

That’s how it is in the truck world, but when I posted that, I forgot that the Jeep Wrangler exhaust is behind the rear axle.

People learn better when they seek information themselves. The catback exhausts on the Wrangler (typically) replace the factory resonator with a muffler and do away with the trash can at the rear. An axle back exhaust is (typically) just a muffler and some fancy tips.

Hi Jxzi, there will be an upside and downside to each type, it just depends what fits your budget and achieves the effect you are looking for.

Axlebacks will be more affordable and offer an improvement to the sound of your jeep, but won't do much for power gains. Catback systems cost a little more, but add a few extra hp through the use of larger tubing and smoother mandrel bends.

On most vehicles, an axleback usually requires cutting the stock exhaust, too, but luckily on JL's both types can bolt right up (at least ours do). If we can offer any other info to help your decision, please feel free to shoot us a PM or call at 1800-990-0905!
