I’m considering the Genesis Dual Battery setup, but see that kit removes the OEM auxiliary battery for ESS. The way I think of the Genesis system is that it’s basically just like the factory dual battery setup. Why would I spend the money on the Genesis system when it’ll end up being like what I have now from the factory?

Or do I have this all wrong?

The @Genesis Offroad is NOT the same as the stock design, plus the Genesis eliminates the Golf-Cart battery.

I don't know if the Genesis eliminates the ESS or not. I had the TazerJL before the dual battery set up. I believe it does not.

The real advantage of the Genesis is if you are running multiple high drain items, like a Winch, Refrigerator, Air Compressor, or you want to run lights with the Jeep off, as an example. All those things can be run off the second battery, and never impact your main battery.

Additionally, the second battery can be used as a Jump-start, by pushing a button on the Genesis, if the main battery fails.

It's a pricy investment, and the batteries themselves are an additional cost. But there are advantages (if you have the need), over the stock set up.

Tagged Genesis above so they can weigh in as well.

Great to know, thanks guys!

I do have a lot of lights that would be nice to use sometimes without the engine on. I do have a winch which would be nice to know it’s not effecting my starter battery while being used, and I’m in the process of upgrading my audio with an amp and sub and perhaps an additional larger amp and larger sib dow the road.

Perhaps I’ll take the plunge.

What @BullMoose1776 said ?
Not a day goes by where I regretted getting the Genesis system.
I know it may be overkill for some folk but the perfect set up for others.
Genesis did a tremendous job fabricating the set up: clean and functional

Also, highly recommend getting the G screen to monitor battery levels and be able to 'jump start' yourself from inside the cabin.
I mounted my g screen to the right of the locker switch since I ordererd my Rubi without the AUX switches ?

That definitely looks like a nice setup!

I like the fact that I can connect my direct battery connections underneath that battery cover they have (would be worth it just to clean up the mess of wires I have ?).

That G screen is a nice feature, but sure is bright! Is there a way to dim that? I’m half blind (for real…lost the vision in one eye) and don’t need any more bright distractions in the cab. I like how you can jump yourself from inside.

What about the voltmeter? It appears you can still flip that up and use the USB connections still?

If you go on the Genesis off road site there are videos that explain everything from purchasing to installation. I have had mine for quite a while and it is probably the best investment I have done to prevent a lot of other electrical problems you could possibly experience. Follow the video instructions and install it yourself. Not hard at all.

Believe me, I don’t let anyone touch my Jeep. ?. Looks super easy to install, thanks!

You can dim it ? But also the light doesn't stay on forever. It stays on for 45 seconds everytime you press on the screen and then it will look like the 2nd screen I posted.

And yes, i added an additional volt meter/more usb ports. I only added it because there was still plenty of space on the panel when I added the g screen and I didn't want to center it. Now I dont have to flip through the screen and can see both the AUX(g screen) and the MAIN(usb volt meter) voltage levels. Plus volt meter is red so it matches the locker switches nicely ?

I am looking at buying this setup. I have a Dometic 35 and am looking for something that I can keep plugged in all the time. Will this setup work for the Dometic? I assume that what it uses will be recharged when I drive?

Yes! A lot of our customers buy our dual battery system specifically so they can run a fridge. Just keep in mind that you'll want to install a dedicated power outlet connected to our bus bars. This way the fridge can run from the second battery, and won't drain the cranking battery. All of your factory power outlets get their power directly from the cranking battery at all times. We have several options for adding extra power outlets into your vehicle on our website -

Here's a short video showing how to install that extra power outlet into your Jeep.

If the secondary battery is fully discharged, what is the average time for a JEEP Jl to fully recharge that battery?>

There's a lot of variables, but generally speaking if your aux battery is quite low, it will take several hours for the alternator to recharge it. Remember, the alternator can and will recharge your battery, but that's not its main job. The alternator is there to provide electricity to the vehicle while it is running, but it's not a real battery charger. We recommend using a good quality battery charger that is compatible with AGM batteries and can put out at least 20 amps to recharge your batteries after it has been drained down low. This will help keep your batteries healthy and extend their lifespan. This applies to any vehicle with a battery, not just our dual battery system.

Hope this helps!

So nice to see some great info out there.
People have for decades treated the alternator like a battery charger - just jump start it and the alternator will charge it (while doing everything else).
The amperage to the battery isn't all that high, it takes a very long time.
A good charger will take an AGM battery through all phases of charging with far better results than alternator charging.
Bravo.
