I have a Sport S with Goodyear Wrangler tires (245/75/17) and approved rim size is 6.5" - 8.0".
So, if I want to keep stock tires and replace the wheels only, should I get 17x8 wheels? or can I get 17x9 wheels?
I've seen members mounting 35's on stock wheels (17x7.5) not the opposite.
Is there reason for wider wheels other than tire sizes? I'm not planning to lift so the biggest tire I will get is 315/70/17 and 17x8 would work but most of the wheels I like come in 17x9.
My wallet is pretty light now and I hate the stock wheels more than stock tires.

Your wallet is light. Wait until you can do wheels and tires, it will be cheaper.

I don't think my wallet is getting fat any time soon, but I take your point. I'll wait. Thanks.

Rubicon takeoff wheels and tires are a good option for an economical upgrade. If it's your daily driver you probably want to stay with 33" tires or smaller (stock rubicon size). However, if you don't care about mpgs or performance many have done 35" on a sport. But most would recommend a lift and an axle regear if going this route.

Based off of this what is a good price point to get a set of rubicon rims and tires? There are a few by me for around $1200 with about 300 miles on them wondering if That’s a good price or not.

$1,000-$1,200 is pretty typical. So to me $1,200 is at the high end.

Yes, $1200 is on the high end. Also with/without TPMS is another consideration on price.

One more question for a newbie, do I have to take this to the dealership so the mph and miles are correct or will it not be a big deal. Stock tires where 245 75/17 and the new ones are 285 70/17

I went to a bit taller tire than you (a 295/70/17) and the difference is very minimal. I wouldn't worry about it, just keep in mind you'll be going about 4% faster than what your speedometer shows.
