For those with automatics.....what can be said, good or bad, about highway driving in manual mode, and cruising in a gear slightly higher than that the automatic transmission might have assigned, in the interest of fuel savings?
I imagine one could always downshift if the torque of the current manually set gear doesn't provide ample power for the incline/vehicle weight/acceleration need, etc.
Is there a downside to this? Is it not really saving gasoline?
