Proximity key mandatory option on Rubicons?

Working on a Rubicon order and the salesperson wrote this to me:

"All Rubicons have to have the proximity key. its not a choice to not take it. "

Seems like a lot of members on here have Rubicons without the proximity key. ??????

That is odd. It was optional last fall.

This Jeep is the first vehicle that I have had with it. Frankly, I have no idea how I got along for 40-years of driving without it.

What's surprising is that the keyless entry is the most mallcrawlerish option that they offer, and it's mandatory on the most hardcore off road model. I could (kinda) understand on the Sahara.

When I bought my Hard Rock it came standard with many options, but that was reflected in a higher MSRP - not by forcing the buyer to take them ala carte.

BTW, apparently LED lighting is similarly mandatory on the Rubi.

Jeep.com lets you build one without proximity. If they are going to require it then it should be part of the base price or a package price.

I didn't think I want proximity so didn't order on mine. My new VW came with them standard and I realized what a pain it was getting out the keyfob a couple of times a day to unlock the Jeep so I retrofitted it to mine a couple of weeks ago.

It’s so nice to have. I’m complaining that it’s not even an option on the XLT 250 Tremor that can be spec to near $70k. My Fiesta ST had it.

Walk up unlock and start your vehicle without digging through your pockets for a key. So nice, so easy. Well worth the $495 it costs.

Of course the best option is no doors and push start....

My 18 Rubicon does not have the proximity key.

When I began putting the order together for my 20' JLR it was not required, however when the order actually was submitted it was required...That said, you will love it!

Get it! You will enjoy the convenience of not having to drag that Big Key Fob out of your pocket. My Gladiator has it and now I want to add it to the other two!

If you don’t mind me asking, what is the reason you might not be wanting the feature?

The floor mats were also required at one point and then were not when I actually ordered in March.
