Proximity door locks retrofit install (instructions, parts, links) on JL Wrangler

Was thinking of this option at $99 until I saw they raised the price to $149....for 4 wires? Better come with dinner and a move for that kinda cash....I'll build my own.

So I only had all of the parts today to do just the swing gate. All parts installed and it worked as soon as I plugged it in. So at least I can put my groceries in the back without taking my keys out.

I posted a thread asking about this, but figured it may get more traction here.


I ordered the proximity kit and installed it(2021 Sahara) with the tazer mini. Whe I got done with the install everybting worked perfect, excepts the proximity sensor on the passenger side stays illuminated. I did the trouble shooting the company I purchased from asked and nothing worked. I plugged in my factory harness and clicked on the proximity harness and the light cut off, I unplugged that one connector and the one at the footwell and plugged the new harness in and the light came on within 3 seconds. I let them know this and they shipped out a brand new harness. I installed it tonight and it does the same thing.
I can cut that off on the stereo, so it’s not a huge deal as I always look anyway, but curious if anyone has run into this issue or what the fox could be?

the company asked me to disable the tazer and reinstall, but onceI showed them video of using thefactory harness and it cutting off they figured it was the harness. Could it be a flash is needed?

Also, no pins are bent.

Here is a picture of the connector for the mirror. The one on the left is my factory harness, the right is the one that added the wires for the proximity door handles. In addition to the two extra wires, this white with a brown strip on the top row is also extra(not sure what it is or if it could be the issue or not).

The Proximity lock wires do not go through that connector, the Power Mirrors and Blind Spot Monitoring wires are in there and in the Export model the Mirror Repeaters are there too. Have them recheck the part number they are sending you.

Update to my issue. The light and everything always pointed to the passenger side. I was reading over at the gladiator forum and someone mentioned the same issue when taking doors off. I checked the driver side connection and straightened all pins and now the light has gone away. So even though everything pointed at the passenger side, the driver side connection fixed it. I hope this helps others out.

As stated in previous thread you want to make sure you already have the antennas needed. Sahara and Rubicon are supposed to already have them if you have keyless entry w/ push to start.

This is what I did along with the videos and resources I used.

Step 1 - swap handles
(Parts Needed: Torx T20)

Follow this video:


rear swing gate has a grommet that needs to be removed to access the T20 screw holding the cap.

Step 2 - remove door panels.
(Tools needed: Torx T20, Torx T30 & plastic pry tool)

Step 3 - remove inner door card
(Tools needed: 10mm socket)

Remove 9 bolts around perimeter of the plate.

Roll the window down till you see the bolts holding the window. Remove bolts holding window and tape window up to keep it out of the way.

Once you have the window up you need to carefully pull the inner card back enough to get to the wire to the door lock and handle. This is the hardest part, you have to lift up slightly to get the bottom out first. You then have to pull down and twist just enough to clear the power window track and actuator.

Once you have the card pulled back enough remove and replace the door harness. This part is pretty self explanatory. Just make sure when you add the handle pigtail it is out of the way of the window path.

Step 4 - put everything back together

Step 5 - rear swing gate jumper
(Tools needed: Plastic pry tool)

Using a pry tool firmly pull the plastic panel off on the rear swing gate

Step 6 - replace power lock harness with new jumper

Step 7 - put plastic panel back on

Step 8 - go to dealer and have them add sales code GXD and program vehicle

Just received my kit. Compared the part numbers to the list posted and all is correct. Crazy thing though is that the end caps have a 1.5" protruding end and the handle ends are solid. How do you put a protruding end into a solid piece?

The end caps fit like this. You put the handle in the door and then the end cap slips in next to the handle, not inside or attached to it.
