I wanted to protect the synthetic winch line hook loop from the sun, so I just used what I had around the house. I removed the hook and zip tie attached a piece of tool box drawer liner. It’s a rubber like soft material. If for some reason it doesn’t hold up, I’ll look for something different. Maybe a bike tire inner tube piece.

If someone has done something similar I’d love to hear about it.

Creative, I like it. If it doesn’t hold up what about using an old bit of garden hose as a sleeve?

Not sure but would it hold in moisture and make it possibly worse?

I picked up a US made billet aluminum shackle from Agency6. It has an integral solid side to protect the rope, instead of a coverplate like the Factor55. https://agency6.com/collections/billet-winch-shackles
I like their stuff as well. I've had the freedom panel latches and receiver shackle block for a while now. I've never had the panels off, but did pull a couple of stuck vehicles in the snow this past winter.

I would worry about the red thing you have the hook attached to damaging your rope during recovery. Better hope you never have to run your rope to the side and you only do straight pulls.

Note I have pulled almost completely sideways during recovery situations because I needed to slide the nose of the Jeep sideways or the only tree I could reach was off to the side of the Jeep.

Good point. I will be sure to keep that in mind in a winching situation. Thanks.

Agreed, especially if there are any burrs on that red part. Although spectra will slide right along that no problem and for a few pulls here and there against it won’t matter. That stuff holds up great even faded from the sun and balled up along the line like a sweater does.
