Thank you everyone for the responses. I will probably avoid this one and continue to look. The Jeep was rented in Pa for the 14 months, then purchased by a local dealer in Pa and offered for sale. Info was obtained by carfax. The listed price is $38,900. They may have just cleaned the carpet since it smelled really clean. Mid $30,000 is about my limit to spend right now. I don't believe I will find a leftover or new one at this price and I am set on a Rubicon. Thank you very much again for all of the responses.

Regards,

Kevin

Had a JK and on my second JL. Hard top in the winter and soft top with doors optional all summer. The only leaking regardless of the configuration was occassionally the JK soft top would let a little water in if I got too close with the car wash wand.

If it was a rental, I’d bet it is a 4xe Rubicon. I would be more concerned over the 4xe components than anything else.

If it is a 4xe, $30k is max I would go on a rubicon with 35k miles.

Hello all,
I have been looking for a Jeep Rubicon for the past 8 months. The current one I am looking at is a 2025 with 35,000 miles. This Jeep was a rental per CarFax. I went to look at it again today and found that the doors were unlocked. Checked the cabin and the seats and carpets look new like a 2025 should. Everything smelled good. Ran my hand under the rear driver's side floor mat and the main carpet was dry. Did the same to the front driver's side floor mat and found the carpet to be damp. Not soaking wet but damp. Now I know Wrangler hard tops leak, just didn't expect it on a one-year-old Jeep. So my question is this...are roof leaks part of Jeep ownership? My Hummer leaked and I kept it dry as good as anyone. If it's a Jeep thing I can deal with it. Just want to know if this is common in a Wrangler of this age. Thanks for any advice,

Regards,

Kevin
I have had JLs since 2020 and I have never had my hardtop leak. I would never buy a used rental vehicle, especially a Jeep. You could get luck and get a good deal and good vehicle, but people abuse rental vehicles...

for what it’s worth. I got my 2021 JLUR 2.0t (non etorque) with 51k miles on it for 25 before factoring in my trade. Never wheeled and not modified and well taken care of. The deals are out there. They originally wanted 31 fwiw.

Wise choice. Carpet was likely wet from a heavy detailing. And what ever you do, don't fall for a great price on a 4Xe.

Not a 4xe. Just high mileage from a rental. Enough to turn me away.

Yes, roof leaks are absolutely a Jeep thing. But they are not acceptable on a 2025 with 35,000 miles.

i would never buy a rental car. Virtually every single person who rented it didn’t give a shit what kind of abuse they put it through. Watch those offroad recovery videos and frequently you will see rental cars and RVs stuck in places the driver had no business being. Instead of drive it like you stole it, the saying should be drive it like a rental car.

I personally would not purchase a one year old vehicle with that kind of mileage on it. As a rental, you have zero knowledge of the treatment. There are plenty of other options out there. Avoid this one is my recommendation.

Doesn't that basically apply to any used vehicle?
True, but as Terry pointed out, rentals tend to get exceptional abuse just because the renter doesn't own them and could care less about how they are used. The whole reason renting a vehicle today is so excruciatingly painful with disclaimers and the pre-inspection marking down every little ding and scratch is because of the long history of abuse by renters. That, and the fact that for quite some time now rental car companies realized they could get more ROI on the cars by renting them for a relatively short period, minimizing damage through stringent rules/penalties, and them put them on the market for resale. Not a bad business move, and I'm sure a lot of them are just fine. I just would never buy one.

Rented mules.

Last September, we rented a 20' UHaul truck to help a relative move. 'Twas a late-model Ford E350 with a box, identical to the web photo pasted below. Just like that image, and from the outside, the sum of our vehicle looked reasonably new and fresh. The cab's interior, and particularly the inside of the box itself, told a different story. I couldn't wait to turn it back in.
