Just placed my 1 tb portable hard drive of music in my center console and lo and behold I have about 10,000 songs to listen to. It does take about 2 minutes before I can browse the folders but so happy the usb has enough power for the hard drive.

With the amount of trails I run in mine, a spinning-disk hard drive would be toast in about a week. Those things really don't like being shaken around. Maybe put some rubber around it or something else to cushion it if you want to protect it a bit.

If you got an SSD instead I bet the menu would load in a lot faster and it'd be a ton more durable, too. Maybe a cheap SATA SSD (1TB for around $100) in USB enclosure or a Samsung T5 (500GB for about $90)?

As an alternative, I use a MicroSD in a USB adapter. I assume both of these methods will be “8track-like” in 10 years-lol.

Music is great but always wanting more - Any hacks on using Maps or other data from the Hard Drive to the screen. No iPad or tablet needed so 1 less device
