Factory paint on my hard top has deteriorated badly since I bought my JL Rubicon in late May. Looks almost as though there was adhesive from the seams that was wiped prior to painting, and that the adhesive has cause the paint to break down. Note the lighter streaks above the section already broken down. This was not observable when purchased, and is now showing on the opposite side also, just not as badly.

Has anyone else experienced the same? I take mine in 10/10 for the replacement steering damper and will have them address this also - Iā€™d Expect full repair under warranty.

I agree that is unacceptable and should be fixed under warranty.

QC on the paint jobs seems pretty poor. Here is a pic of some major paint bubbles I found on a hella Yella painted hardtop and it was present on nearly every edge. Pretty crappy:

Yeah, that is pretty bad - did your dealer take care of that for you? I expect to encounter some nits and nats - will be interesting to see how things go when I take it in. Overall love the JL, but seems off to see this type of thing at the price point.

I picked my Wrangler up today and put the roof pieces in the bag with my salesman. When I got home from Maryland I went to put them back on and noticed my paint is messed up under a layer of clear coat and is also chipped pretty bad. I am reaching out to Jeep Cares tomorrow since it seems like an issue from the factory...

Those are impregnated air cells so the hardtop can breath! FCA... they think of everything, donā€™t they?

Congrats on the new Wrangler - I know thatā€™s gotta be a bummer on day one! Hope they make it right for you.

Ha yes, brilliant!

It wasn't mine. It was just the display Rubicon in the dealer showroom the other day. I saw it while INDOMINUS was getting her steering damper installed BACKWARDS

I actually reached out today and opened a case with Jeep Cares. The local dealer asked me to bring it back on a sunny day so they can get pictures for the case! Hoping to get it addressed quickly.

I had issues at the hinges and at tops of the rear windows on my textured hardtop. They had a body shop repaint the back clamshell, then the freedom panels didn't match, so they painted those too. Annoying to deal with but it looks good now.

Iā€™m hoping they will do the same for mine. The chip is no big deal since it can be patched with a touch up pen but the white from the panel showing through the black and clear coat is no bueno.

FCA warranty dept should approve the repaint. I'd ask them to do it all the first time, the texture/color is difficult to match.

Agree on asking them to do the whole top if that will resolve things - in my case Iā€™m concerned that a repaint alone would only mask the underlying problem, which Iā€™m guessing to be seam adhesive underneath that caused the paint to fail. Iā€™ve no idea if they can sand/get rid of that without creating uneven textures.
