I got the “upgraded” speakers w 8.4” system but they are just ok - are there any upgrade plug and play speakers? I dont want to go nuts here (Dont want to replace amps or add amps or wires) but if there is something semi-simple id like to consider it...

if not, ill live with it.

Interested in the same; it sounds OK but would love an easy upgrade for some louder/clearer sound when driving naked

Metra 6.5" pods with a set of 6.5" components up front will be a massive improvement over the current 4" speakers.

Its not exactly plug and play but it was worth the extra effort for me.

What needs to be done? Why is it not plug n play?

There is a thread on this Site that I followed where I changed out the fronts with infinities and the overheads with focals using metra harness adapters for oem plug and play. If you google it you will get a better hit to the thread than using search within this site. It made a big difference.

In a nutshell you need to remove the 4" pods in the kick panel to install the Metra pods. You will also have to solder a resistor (48ohms If I remember correctly) in line with the speaker. The radio has to see a load from the speaker or it will not send sound out to it. The resistor fixes that and you will need to do both left and right sides.

There are several in depth threads here that cover everything and are well worth looking over even though not all the info pertains to your install.

First post here covers the front and rear speakers you can ignore the parts about line converters and adding amplifiers.
