Yup just apply the grease to the surface of the weatherstripping. Put some on your finger and rub it in a little.
I fixed the issue by placing 3M 5430 squeak reduction tape along the top lip of the tailgate here. And some below just for good measures.Ok I thought I had found the rattle but in fact I didn't until I had my wife drive me around while I sat in the cargo. It is the the weather strip (?) on the bottom of the cargo glass making a creaking sound. Tailgate is solidly shut and doesnt move at all - I tried hard to make it move and make a noise - trust me it ain't movin AT ALL...
Anyone else have this? Its kinda like the rubber is creaky. I cant really explain it... its almost like it needs to be more squishy rather than a stiff rubber...

Funny story. I tried a piece of 3M double face tape from when I converted to LED DRLs in the flares and just didn’t peel one side to see if it helps. It worked great so I haven’t changed it yet. A pretty red strip across the edge of my tailgate that says 3M every other inchI put 2 strips as shown here, along the entire length of the tailgate.
3M 5430 tape, Almost 2 years and counting, zero maintenance and no more squeaks!
