* Many of us like a mesh shade above us in the front that's retractable.
* Sometimes we want the sun, other times not, and yet other times, having that shade retracted can help us work our Freedom Panels, Sunrider, soft top, or even EZFLIP.
* Bestop's JL version of their retractable sunshade seems a ways off. Contrary good news from those in the know is welcome.
* I developed my own retractable shade but at its core was a flimsy cardboard interior. retractable window shade idea I wait on the parts to see if I redo this with a wooden dowel. I'm finding out that window shades with the old "pin and slot" mechanism on the sides are being phased out.
* In the meantime, tell me what you think I can do to improve this design.
* On both the passenger's and driver's side, are 2 PVC pipes that run half the shade's 37" length. They're connected at the 18.5" midpoint by barrel hinges. Assume the mesh shade is connected to the PVC by threading rubber through the mesh and around the PVC.
* The mesh is attached to the Sports Bar in back. Lets assume I'll put some grommets in the mesh at this position and use bungee balls that circle the Sports Bar to do that.
* Like in my window shade implementation I linked, a hem at the front holds some 1" rare earth magnet disks to keep the shade firmly attached to the top of the windshield frame.
Now the (not so) magic sauce:
* Pulling the shade off the top of the windshield, the PVC on either side can fold towards the Sports Bar, care of the barrel hinges.
* I'll figure some way to keep the shade in that folded state, magnets, bungee cords, something else YTD.
Thanks for your time.
