Has anyone heard a subtle pinging/clicking/ticking sound when turning in 4 low? It’s very subtle and it almost sounds electrical. I’ll be taking it into dealer for the dampener and I’ll have them look at it, but has anyone else heard this?

It sounds like it’s coming behind the steering column or dash.

Still haven’t figured it out. I think it may even be sounding like it may be coming from floorboard area and it makes the driver feel like it’s behind steering area. I’m talking mine in to get a new steering stabilizer and I’ll ask them to check it out.

Mine does it too, I think it’s normal driveline noise from the T-case.

I HAVE THIS TOO. I took it to the dealer, they told me it was normal/supposed to do that. It has to be something wrong/misaligned/out of position, or way more people would be aware that this is happening, ill have to take er back soon. if you get a response, please pm me so i know what to refer the dealer to.

We need a video.

Clicking noises are common when turning sharply in a Wrangler. It can be axle shaft U-joints, transfer case, or even the ABS motor cycling due to electronic traction control.

The traction control system is disabled when in 4lo. I’ll get a video the next time I’m in some loose terrain. The best way to describe it is a very regular ticking sound almost like a clock when the steering wheel is at full lock when in 4lo. I believe the last time I heard it I had the diffs locked as well, so that would have to be something to rule out.

Mine does without lockers enabled. It’s def inside the cab. It sounds like a ping you’d hear when a guitar string was breaking.

The portion of the traction control system (BLD) that clicks while in slippery terrain is not shut off in 4-low. In fact, that's when it is activated and working at its hardest. I just mentioned it as a possibility, because I get really loud clicking from the ABS motor cycling to operate BLD while offroad at times.

Ah, gotcha. It’s been a while since I’ve brushed up on Jeep literature but does the rubicon use the brake locking feature? Or is that on command trac equipped jeeps only? For some reason I thought the rock trac doesn’t use the brakes for non slip.

I have noticed the same sound with mine, only when turning sharply in 4wd. I just attributed it to some driveline binding.

I dont think Rubicons use the brakes for traction in 4 low. When mine breaks loose, it just spins.

Took my new Rubicon off road for a “newbie” Jeep owner club event to learn. Mine does the same thing making similar noises. To me it seems to be in the steering column or lower. Pinging and popping. My sound was almost like a spring popping when being stretched. The steering also very unresponsive which I attributed to the mud. The steering noise doesn’t happen in 4H or 2H. But then I’m into problem number 2 which is trying like crazy to keep it in the lane at highway speeds. Dealers told me “that’s normal”. But doesn’t sound or feel correct to me.
