Finally picked up my new 2 Door 2021 3.6L 8 speed auto Wrangler a week ago. Haven’t really been able to have a good run due to lockdown, but are aiming on heading out soon - moving house. So I will be looking at my first refuelling. It has been quite a while since I last owned a vehicle, so I have not visited a petrol station in several years, and I am not quite sure what the “91”, “95”, “98” numbers indicate. The Wrangler Owners Manual states that I should use minimum “91“ unleaded petrol - just curious whether there is any benefit in using “Premium 95“, or “Premium 98” unleaded?

Follow the owners manual, there is no benefit to paying more.

Yes follow the manual.

Use 91 octane

95 and 98 octane are designed for specific engines. They are more expensive and provide no benefit. Can even do damage.

Some say to use 95 sometimes but don't believe them.

Going by memory, your compression ratio is 11.3 : 1, so 91 (R+M)/2 octane is correct. Like Joe98 stated, there is no benefit to higher octane gasoline.

Thanks all for your advice! Dealer reckons 95 and sometimes 91, but will stick with 91 - don‘t like the idea of mixing. And if no benefit, only extra expense - not worth it. Appreciate your feedback! :like:

I have tried 91 and 98 from shell and caltex. I didn’t notice the difference…
VPower has a little bit better fuel economy. But, of course, cannot cover the price variance.
