I read somewhere, don't remember the source, that the full-time uses a clutch pack and part-time uses a chain.Old thread I know, I can’t seem to find any confirmation about how the full time functions actually works within the transfer case. Is it similar to the NP242 or will it be like the 249? The 242 did not have clutches but more of an open differential inside the case so there was nothing to wear out. If that’s the case, I don’t see why it would be any less reliable than the standard transfer case. If there are clutches I know that’s an obvious concern from a reliability standpoint.
Has anybody actually opened one up or seen an exploded view of one?
