So I wanted to change up my emblems cause I didnt like the Rubicon Red with the Sarge Green and going with Bronze accent colors on the exterior. There are a few companies out there that you can buy these pre done but working in a body shop and access to a painter I figured I would see what I could do for the cost of lunch rather than $120 lol. Over all its a pretty simple thing, and the only real thing I would have done different is in the setup for painting so I wouldnt have to do any cleanup.

On to the process and pics.

Once the letters were off it was simple to see how they are held together and get them apart. Each letter has 3 pins that are just melted to form a kind of rivet to keep the 2 halves together. A pocket screw driver and knife made short work of the plastic.

At this point I took some red scotch brite pads to the red part and grey to the silver to let the paint stick better and handed them off to the painter. He got them setup in the booth, and this is what I would change. The red we went with a custom gloss black with a ton of flake and pearl to give it a shine, and the same bronze as my sliders you can find here but with a matte clear over them. I would have set the red up on rivets or pins or something to keep the clear from pooling on the tape but it was easy enough to clean up later and hardly noticeable once on the Jeep.

You can really see how much flake is in the black here in the test fit.

Once the paint had a day to set up I spend an hour or so gluing them back together. I got one that you can brush on and brushed the face of black and then put drops on the pins on the back once they were stuck back together. Overall not a bad process.

And all done, they also held up well out for a day of muddy wheeling this weekend. Super happy with how they came out and looking for other things to paint in the bronze now lol.

JJEEEEPP!

Great job! I agree that red on sarge green doesn't look right. Sometimes I even struggle to accept my blue highlights on my sarge green 4xe, though I did go out of my way to get blue D-rings for my new bumpers for some reason

I put them in a few different orders while I had them all apart and giggled like a child more than once.

At first I was just going to order the factory 392 stuff since its all bronze. Then I spent some time in our paint chip cabinet and found that Volvo bronze color and it matched very well. And with that any time I need something I can have it mixed to the same colors, and hoping when I get wheels I can get a powdercoat to match as well. Right before I started this project I also found my old Overland Bound medallion and it fits perfect in the trail rated badge location so I didnt need to get the 392 version of that either. All worked out well.

My name is PJ, so I've been thinking of maybe using some extra JEEP letters to add my initials to mine! ? (I've even been called "Peej" on occasion, but I'll stick with the PJ.)

How are the ones you did attached to the actual vehicle? Just some kind of glue? They look terrific.

I used double sided tape to put them back on. I got too excited to put them back on the Jeep to take pictures of that part whoops. Used 1/2" tape on the Js and Ps and 1/4" on the Es

Could be worth looking for a Pull-a-Part near you to see if you can get lucky and find a wrecked one you can yank the letters you want.

That's exactly what I was thinking of doing! I want to find a local one to grab some extra mirrors, anyway. The letters should be fairly easy to find, since they wouldn't have to be from a JL, or even a Wrangler
