I hate the plastic used by Jeep on my JK. I have to treat them almost weekly to keep them from fading or staining. They don't scratch though. If I get a JL, I would like painted fenders this time.

I went with painted fenders on my white JLUR. just not a fan of the black unpainted parts on any car. And In Canada its only a $150 upgrade. which I found odd as I saw the US was like $400 or so.

Of course you need painted fenders. Heck I just went out and bought a utility trailer to match my body color, so of course I had to have body colored fenders. I'll let you know how it all looks someday when my new 2 door Rubi arrives.

Yeah, Texcal, I'd like to see your pic--
My Rubicon JLU came with protective painted strips on the rear colored fenders. It doesn't cover the entire fender though. I can post a pic tomorrow if anyone is interested.

Sorry, it took me a while to respond. Here's a photo of my dirty rear fender. It's barely noticeable but if you look closely you can see the clear strip defined by a line. It doesn't cover the entire fender.

I'll chime in that I think painted vs. black can also depend on the color. I'm ordering next week, either Mojito or Punkn, and think that black will look better with brighter colors. With painted fenders it's just too much IMO. If I were ordering something less brilliant I could see painted, although must agree with the scratching argument presented here many times over.
(pretty sure I argued both sides there ;)
I agree, plus on certain colors if you order a black top, it only looks good with black fenders too. It's definitely that way on Punk'n. Black hard top or soft top and black fenders look great, black hard top and painted fenders not so much.

Plastic. Heck they stick out so far they are just asking to get hit. I would rather treat them instead of having to worry about paint problems from wheeling. I do not like that my 4Runner has so much paint on the corners to get messed up. I spend a lot of time waxing out scratches after wheeling.

I plan on eventually replacing fenders and bumpers with after market ones, so I went with the cheapest route.

Plastic bumpers and the non-painted fenders. Saved about $1700 which will be going to Poison Spyder and/or ACE Engineering.

I did black fenders and hardtop. Feels more like a Jeep to me.
