I recently got the check engine light come one and received this code P0301 which is cylinder 1 misfire and another code stating multiple cylinders misfires. Jeep is currently at the dealership and apparently they can't find what's wrong with it. They also stated that my Jeep has Champion spark plugs instead of OEM ones. That is strange, I bought the Jeep brand new and have never serviced anything regarding the engine. Well anyway, they are keeping it another day but I have a feeling they are not going to find any proper solution. Any feedback helps.

Do you feel anything unusual driving the Jeep? Loss of power or rough idle?

The reason I ask is because I had the CEL come on my 2014 JKU once. The dealer hooked up its diagnostic tool and claimed I had a blown cylinder. I knew that was untrue because, besides the CEL, the Jeep was driving perfectly normal. I would have noticed a blown cylinder. To make a long story short, they reset the CEL and never had any more issues with that Jeep.

Hopefully it turns out to be nothing.

First thing to check would be for a leaking valve cover, oil soaking the O2 sensor, causing the code. Next they should check spark plug, plug wire, coil, swap coils and see if it throws a code on swapped position, bad coil power supply, test fuel injector, perform compression test, bore scope cylinder……

Stop. Take it somewhere else. Whoever is working on it is an idiot.

Champion has been the oem Chrysler spark plug for a very, very long time.

Thanks for the tips, I did read something similar here in other threads. They claimed they swapped the cylinder 1 spark plug with #2 and it was still throwing the same code. I asked them about any leakage and they claimed there was none. Let's see what they say tomorrow.

Sure thing sounds like it tbh.

Does not surprise me that Jeep's own service people are unaware of such thing. smh

My best friend recently had a similar code pop up on his JTR, except on cylinder 6. He did some swapping around and found to have a bad coil, all at 34,xxx miles. His rig is heavily modified so he did the work himself over taking it in and said it was a pain. He bought a spare to have for our upcoming trip from Tennessee to Moab in March.

Took it to my mechanic and it looks like there is oil leaking onto the O2 sensor. Hopefully this is the only problem. Is this something jeep warranty covers? Highly doubt it and will probably just have my mechanic do the work.

Of course it’s covered under warranty, if you’re under warranty. This is a common repair.

What if I have extended warranty since I’m at 68k miles?

Then it would depend on the specific coverage of your individual extended warranty policy. Check your policy documents.

I got all this work warranty approved. Took care of the engine misfires and catalytic converter codes.
