@JeepCares

I was driving to pickup some groceries, while at a stop light vehicle starts a rough idle. Few seconds later Stop/Start unavailable, MIL pops on. Solid yellow engine light.
Park it, check for leaks - hissing, etc etc. Seems okay. (Only 8,000 miles on her). Manage to get it home but in protection mode, low power, sputtering.

Setup for a tow through jeeptow Stellantis Thu Afternoon, confirmed good pickup 8am to 8:30am Fri. Get jeep ready for pickup that evening. "Miyumbi Towing"
Fri morning no response from tow driver at 8:30.am Contact Stellantis, they didnt have an update. 9:30 am comes by they drop me and "reschedule".

I ended up driving it to the dealer at this point, seemed to be running "ok" and by "ok" its still not 100% but its definitely driveable but missed my appt due to the tow cancellation. Stellantis books me a retow about 4 hours later - I cancelled it because i was already at the dealer.

No loaners available at the dealer, Shuttle home. Shuttle doesnt run the weekend, guess its uber eats. Figure it would be a quick fix.
Saturday Update - they don't know whats wrong with it. Flashed some updates, checked fuel and ignition systems and clear code. Same thing that happened to me, drives "ok" then MIL Pops on, terrible performance in low power mode. Foreman going to do more trouble shooting Monday. Had to take PTO, can't commute to work. Don't really have the cash to be buying loaner cars (I mean, i spent $60,000 on a JLUR that comes with loaner cars and towing....)

Anyone have any ideas on P0171 and P2092 for new wranglers? I've done some looking but it seems like there could be a wide variety of issues.
A Little frustrated. Thanks for hearing me out.

Pic for attention.

2.0 or 3.6?

it doesn’t really matter since they use the same design here, and this is a bank 1 fault. Probably a bad oil control valve or cam phaser. The only way they’ll know for sure is by removing the cam actuators, testing the valve, and then replacing parts.

Thanks man, I'll chat with the technicians Monday. It's 3.6 with Manual tranny.

The 3.6 is easier to diagnose. Swap the left and right banks cam actuators and recheck. The real problem with these dang things is that the parts almost always test fine and look and act normal under test conditions. So you just end up replacing everything.

Sorry to hear about your issues hope that they fix it soon. Getting back to the loaner they should put you into a rental. This is not your problem that they are having issues will their cars. This is one reason after having 4 Jeeps this will be my last one way to many problems happening and they can’t seen to fix them. Let us know the outcome good luck.

Does this go back to training and knowledge issues not being a smart ass but being a former trades man updating is very important these days.

No the moving parts just can’t be properly tested. It’s a mechanical actuator that pokes a little button in the center of the camshaft bolt. The bolt is the “oil control valve”. The test is to remove the actuator and poke it. If it gets stuck, it’s bad. The problem is that it probably only sticks once every 100 times it’s moved.

Wow these modern engines are certainly complicated. I have been a car guy all my life raced for over 50 years and I can truly say compared to today it was easy ??

*Quick Update*

They went through and checked vacuum, ignition systems, fuel systems. Everything seems ok. They think it was bad gas, they are doing a fuel sample (But i fueled up prior to taking it so, probably not going to help)

Runs fine when cold, when it heats up CEL pops and goes into sputtering mode.

I Mentionted the cam phaser and he said that would be P2092 not P2096, which is lean downstream cat code.

They put some octane booster and hes going to run it for a bit and see if it eventually clears out.

Fingers Crossed.

Another Update for people having the same issue (This pops up on google search now).

Apparently some vehicle oil or dirt got onto the 02 sensor and was giving faulty readings. Keep you posted if this was the fix.

If they don’t replace that leaking valve cover gasket you’ll be right back.

this is surprisingly very common.

New update;

Idles like a dream, runs better than i can remember now. At a long stop light (very long) the MIL came back on, rough idle came back - MIL flashing this time.. then went out. Stayed off.. hasnt come back the rest of the ride home (10 miles), let it idle for 5 minutes at the house. Hasn't came back...

Edit - I smelled that lean ethanolly smell before it came on, almost alcholly. Then it went away, and the light went away.

I am assuming the code is stored in history? I am assuming it might have been carbon buildup in the cat from running lean condition triggering it while it burned off temporarily?

Will update if i have to take it back; hopefully this helps someone else with the same issues.

Oh no! Definitely not. Shell and Exxon 87. Right now its got some octane boost from the dealer (They thought bad gas at first, fuel sample turned out good)

New Update - Did some idling/driving around the neighbor hood for an hour or so. Ran good.
While idling in my driveway at the end slowly but surely rough idle came back, CEL popped, Confirmed code P0171. Two Pending Trouble Codes, P0171 and P0300. 1 Permanent Toruble Code (P0171, assuming that just stays there for a while)

Back to the dealer. hopefully Stellantis will pick me up this time, it's almost undriveable in limp mode.
