RhinoRack backbone, Pioneer Tray, and Thule dock glide and hullaport aero with a maximus 3 ladder modified to fit just for giggles.

Just installed today and test drove. Will head 40 miles with 2 tomorrow and report on wind noise.

Did similar as @Bricazo. Took a small utility trailer and used 3-4" PVC pipe to allow the Kayaks to slide on using the hull as balance. They hold great and a couple ratchet straps and your good to go. Mine are fairly large Vibe kayaks 11' and 13' that would be hard to put on the roof, etc.

Extra holes drilled in the backbone frame around the window, a trimmed washer (hole is right at the angle for the support), and new connection bolts/a few washers at the bottom for the additional height.

done!

Happy with the results.. ~$700 and a couple weekends..

Not to happy with the wind noise, (front brackets and soft top buffeting), more aero mods needed on the front rabbit ears.. But very sturdy.. had my 200lb son jumping all over it.. no issues..

The real test will be the Rubicon Jeep Jamboree, 3 days to go :)

This was my solution. Harbor Freight. $299. Rated for 2000 lbs. So if I'm not hauling my kayak I can move mulch or maybe my mother in law further away.

Perfect... easy quick and cost effective.. not sure it would hold up to the Rubicon trail.. but heck.. at that price buy 2 :)

Thule Hullavator Pro. Love these. The gas shocks do all the lifting.

Loaded up my 13 foot Ocean Kayak in preparation for a trip to Mexico.
Rhino Vortex Bars
Malone kayak rack with stinger.
Very easy setup and seems stable and quiet.

I know this is an old thread, but the subject still seems relevant to others that may have questions. I second the Thule Hullavators that Dethwalkin mentioned (I have the older 897xl, not the newer Pro). They are expensive but are awesome for the heavier fishing yaks. Have mine attached to the Rhino Rack Backbone and have seen no issues having two 12.5' 85lb boats on top at 70mph! You do however have to be mindful of the width of the load bars though if you have a lifted Jeep. You have to be able to reach each cradle to depress the "trigger handle" for the cradles to release. I'm 5'8" running a Sahara with Rubi suspension and I can just barely reach high and wide enough to operate the handles. Watch the demo vids and it will make more sense.

Only one boat in the pic, but I regularly carry two.

Here pictures of the hitchmount rack on my 2018 soft top JL. I no longer have a softop JL, but a hardtop. I might sell it and get a rhino rack. But hey the hitchmount rack served its purpose well, and still does. It is also extremely easy to install and take off on demand.
