Just curious what the opinions are regarding both these apps. I have and use both but they are quite different. Both can integrate into uconnect via Apple car play but of course Trails Offroad is evidently what Jeep chosed for complete integration. I’m gonna give my opinion but I’m interested in other members experience

Both have great customer support. onX Off-road has a lot more features including 3D and private land ownership names and lot lines if you upgrade to elite. Trails off road is a lot more user friendly, better graphics, easier integration but also a lot more trails which is kind of surprising to me. Was recently in Colorado around Idaho Springs and all the trails I did on Trails offroad were not even listed on onX Off-road

OnX has all of the trails. They pull them directly from the MVUM. I've run into a bunch of situations where the naming is different between the two or OnX only has the FS designation.

That being said, TOR is great for the curated trails they have and they add more and more with the Scout routes and such. OnX is great if you want to explore an area because it'll show you more of the random offshoots. And sometimes those offshoots no longer exist. Double edged sword.

I pay for both of them.

In this case, OnX doesn't include level 1 roads like Oh-My-God Road, which ToR includes.

We have both. TOR is easier to learn and I like their trail videos on YouTube. OnX seems to have more trails and they have online training.

OnX if you want some level of self exploration

Trails Off-road if you have to know every detail of the trail.

One great thing about TOR (other than @trailsoffroad being a sponsor) is their follow mode. That can give great details for various things along the trail that you'd otherwise be clueless about. Pictographs, petroglyphs, etc. that you'd otherwise blindly crawl past are called out. Gives you landmarks for directions, etc.

Pretty slick.

I miss Gaia.

But I use Onx, because they are the big players now in the game and we will share routes with everyone for big group trips.

I have both, but primarily use TrailsOffroad. It takes a bit to figure it out, but I really like how they implemented TrailsOffroad in the Adventure Guides app on the 2024+.

TrailsOffroad difficutly ratings are much more consistent. OnX is all over the place.

This summer we we went to the end of the Keweenaw Penninsula in the MI UP. TrailsOffroad didn't have any trails listed so we used OnX. We took this trail that OnX had rated 5 out of 10. It was just a narrow dirt road through the woods. There was one obstacle a few miles in climbing a small waterfall. I failed on my first attempt because I wasn't paying attention and had never engaged 4WD, didn't need it until then. That trail probably would have been a 2-3 on TrailsOffroad, 3 on the line I took on that obstacle, 2 if you took the bypass.

OnX is good for exploring new areas, but be prepared. Sometimes they underrate the difficulty too.

I find OnX has better east coast stuff where as TOR has alot on the west coast. I have both as well as other programs. I dont think there is a one and done.
