A friend has a 4xe and he is very disappointed in how little of drive time he has on electric mode. Says it's useless in cold weather. Gets half way to work & gas kicks in & can't charge at work, so he says it was a waste of money. Plans on getting ICE asap.
Sounds like an uninformed buyer. Hopefully he can sell his 4xe soon and be happy with his new choice.

I just posted separately. 22' Rubicon 4xe.. completed 3 recalls with no issues.. but
1) a dead battery.. which I replaced with odyssey.
2) had a service shifter problem. Couldn't drive for 30mins.. resolved itself.. don't know why.
3)a month and a half ago, the new 12V battery died after an intensive day of offroading winch festival.. maybe I left a light on.. jumped started with my wife's car... The battery charged itself to full.
4) last week after a day of off roading, by the end of trail, I lost 4wd.. was able to finish the rest of the trail in 2H. The next day, after washing and cleaning my jeep, before I was going to take the dealer, it fixed itself and I had 4wd again.
5) experienced 3 times where I lost my power steering.. once on a trail after 8 long hours in 4H part-time.
Once on pavement with 4H Auto and once on a trail in 4L.. they all resolved itself by just resting my jeep.
6) got a lot of codes that I scanned, cleared, and reemerged. Check photos.
7) got a light show too.

Teraflex 3.5" lift.. 37s, ham radio, and a bunch of gears.

Yes, I do.
The tazer light shows can be triggered from the remote. I've done it accidentally before, may be the cause of your mystery one.

Free government money make people jump before looking, subsidies working better than they expected, it makes people do stupid things.

Your friend sounds very dumb/lack of common sense. 4ex is a hybrid, not electric vehicle (as in all battery). Use it as hybrid where electric motor helps gas to get better mpg. Why go buy ICE when he already has one - ice with hybrid system.

All electric mode is cool feature they added to hybrids, but its more advertising glimic to sound Teslaish then its useful. He needs to stop waisting time charging pretending he has electric vehicle (without range) and run regular mode, battery will help mpg through full drive and get charged via braking and generator charge.

He def didn't research it enough before buying. I tried to tell him beforehand that it's not going to get him to work & back on just the battery. He was just buying into all the hype. Now he's looking at long term ownership, which I worry about long term in my 21 JL so I'm sure the xe will be even worse. Live & learn I guess.

It's still a hybrid. Still benefits from the electric side even when ICE runs.. I take it you don't own one.
No, I do not. I did my research and knew it wouldn't meet my expectations. I tried to tell him, but he didn't take my advice and now I want to say I told you so, but a good friend wouldn't say that. Right???

I would say that 90 horsepower and 210 foot-pounds of torque more than a v6 Jeep gets me something.

Let’s not pretend the non-hybrid versions are without recalls or issues, either. All mass-market options are subject to them.

I live in the Great Lakes area, same weather or worse as yours. ZERO issues in the snow and cold. Please stop spreading nonsense.
I'm not spreading nonsense. Just relaying real world experience. Good for you if it meets your expectations , the purpose of the Forum is to give everyone both sides of the story. My non hybrid is def not going to be perfect long term either, but I would think the xe has the potential for more, just like any new model.

Please share your winter 4xe experience then.

As I said, this is from my friend. That being said, He could only get maybe half of the distance on cold (32 degrees & under) days. On extremely cold days ( 0 & under) it wouldn't allow him to be in electric mode. Apparently if you need the heat too much, it wants the gas to kick in?Once it gets 30 here in Nov, it's going to stay that way until spring. We had an extended cold under 0 for 2 weeks this past winter, so he was quite disappointed.

Jeep Wrangler JL One-year ownership list of Failures, Problems, and Issues with the 4xe IMG_3127

Day 2 with my Willys 4XE. And I love it!
Having issues with my home charger but from what I’ve read it’s probably an outlet issue not a charger issue.

2 years with 4xe. Absolutely love it. I have had a couple of issues but it wouldn’t hold me back from doing it all over again.

1. Had to have the Gen2 power inverter module replaced under warranty around 20k miles. Was without my Jeep about a week.

2. Had to have software updated because CEL came on after I tried to calibrate for larger tire size .

3. Once transmission overheated when trail riding in the mountains during 95 degree weather. Had to stop for 3 or 4 minutes till the temp came back down.

I now have 62k miles on it and no problems in almost a year.

This might be a good place to ask this question. I’m plugging into a three prong outlet in the garage. Everything starts off fine but after about ten minutes all the light are lit and there was an error in charging. I’m assuming cause I’m in a house that was built in the mid 80’s that the outlet just isn’t good enough to handle the load? Am I correct in assuming this? I was thinking of trying to plug into the outlet the garage door opener is plugged into but I’ve read that it’s best not to share an outlet. And suggestions?
