Like the review. Congrats. Mine is essentially stock. I'm waiting for some wear before I start making major mods. Engine is bullet-proof (FCA has shipped over 1 million), tranny fine, ride is smooth (except when off-road). Taken a couple of 2,500 mile trips with no problems. Had a few glitches with the backup camera not showing all detail but it corrects itself. Only nreal itpick is the wind noise (I have the hardtop) and mileage drop into the wind. But it is a Jeep. Otherwise daily commuting getting 23 mpg. I love it. Cheers

I agree. And my Cherokee ("XJ") worked as you describe for JK/THJ/YJ. The way it works on my '18JLU, and reportedly on others (yours included, if I understand you correctly), is not useful.
On the other hand...the 2018 manual--and the brand specialist on the Jeep phone helpline--both claim the JLU can always no-clutch start in 4L. Just like the JK/THJ/YJ (and XJ).
One more thing: here are the two different Instrument Cluster Displays that I get:

I usually see this screen (contradicting the manual, it requires clutch in 4L)

And, after "tricking" by stalling as described earlier in string, I get (for a few seconds) this screen:
No clutch, just brake
