One-Touch Power Top in wintry climate?

Hi All,
Looking for advice as I'm debating between Hard top and Power top. This will be my first JLU (first of any Jeep) so no pre-bias. Price aside, I worry about noise and the winter. I live in Northern NJ and this winter has been pretty rough so far. Any northerners have the power top? Would appreciate any advise.

I have it and love it. Pushing a button over manually removing and storing freedom panels is very convenient. I have had good luck with it so far, no leaks or malfunctions. I live in NEO and yes, it gets cold. But the heater and cold weather group takes care of the chill. As for the noise, well yes its noisy on the highway. I believe there is a aftermarket headliner available, but have not felt the need to purchase that yet.

My only regret is I do miss the option of removing the entire top for the true Jeep iconic look and feel. Also, if you are looking to add a roof rack or roof top tent, I don’t think there is anything on the market yet for SOT roofs.

For the roof racks to clear you need about an eight inch tower. Yakima offers the taller tower as do a few other rack manufacturers. I have Yakima round bars and attachments which I’ve had for 22 years and just buy and sell mounting systems for the current vehicles in the stable. Hotheads just made an insulated liner for the inside which insulates as well as reduces noise. For a $4k up-charge over the entry level soft top you get the convenience of open air motoring without having to store your tops. Factory says SOT is not removable ‘except by dealer’ as aligning the tracks requires a professional, but ultimately underneath is the same JL that could later be outfitted with another top. Bronco has a clever additional panel that is removable from the middle row so this segments the hardtop into smaller/lighter sections. My guess is Jeep will follow suit eventually. As I presently live in the mid-west I need a hardtop but I love the convenience of a one touch convertible so SOT is a good marriage of the two.

Just get a powered SOFT top and be done with it. I tested mine out against 25mph winds out of curiosity and it still worked.

The heat inside is just fine, the noise is better than a soft top but worse than a hard top. The look is not as nice as a naked Jeep but acceptable. IMO
The convenience, can’t beat it.
