Is oil temperature 226 degrees F pretty normal in city driving. As soon as I hit the freeway, it drops down to around 210 in a few minutes.

226 not too high I hope with in traffic but within the safe range where oil should be?

Dont worry til 300*F, which you will likely never see.

BTW, I havent checked but I assume its got a thermostat in the oil cooling system like most other vehicles today.

ive also seen mine run up to 230 when off-roading or while in traffic or long step accents. never seen it go past that though. i just keep an eye on the coolant temp more than the oil temp. as long as your within the jeep manual parameters it shouldn't matter

Given your locale I wouldn't consider that unusual at all. Stop and go (especially in traffic) limits cooling to some degree (pun intended ;)). No way a fan can match airflow and cooling you get at highway speeds.

Mine never go above 198

Then again, I use $100 motor oil..
That would be correct for 2.0L. I never saw it go more than 205* on my 2.0L (now my wife's).
But I guess the thermostat may have a different configuration for the Pentastar.

I’m testing to see if this oil is as magical as they claim, so far so good.
Tribodyn makes a 0-20w for the 3.6 V6 at only $85 a quart. Seems a tad expensive but I love the 2 year/30k mile life.

Mine gets to about 235° when off-roading or going up the slopes in CO. About the same time my check engine light and start/stop system failure light...
