Hey Everyone,

I picked up my Rubi JLU Ecodiesel in March of last year - so I've had it for a year. Only put 12k miles on it and have had the scheduled maintenance done on time.

A couple weeks ago the jeep started giving me the following alerts: Low Oil Pressure, the oil symbol, Oil Temp Is Too High, and it simply overheated.

Took it to the dealership and they're saying that not only is the truck devoid of coolant fluid and oil, but there was oil in the coolant lines and vice versa.

My guess is that it's the Oil Cooler failed.

A few days later, I got the call saying that it's pretty extensive and that they are replacing the whole engine and hoses.

Has anyone else been in this boat?

it’s kind of upsetting that this happened so early in my ownership with barely 12,000 miles on it.

I guess my question Is, is there anyway to present this from happening again? Is this a common problem with this engine?

If you have any guidance on what I should do or ask for from the dealer - I'm all ears.

I’ve attached photos of the engine being replaced. It made my heart sink to see it off it’s chassis.

Looking forward to hearing back from the community.

Holy hell.... that is NOT what you want to see when you go check on the Jeep at the dealership.
As far as I’m aware, this isn’t a problem common to this engine and there’s not a lot you can do to prevent an oil cooler from failing.
I’m glad the dealership is getting it sorted out for you and I hope you’re back in it shortly.

While it’s a shock to see the Jeep that way, worry not. That’s how’s it’s done at the factory.
I’ve done 9 hemi conversions in Wranglers. I can have a body off in less than two hours. It’s easy to do and it makes doing any engine swap a heck of a lot easier to do, and to do it right.

This is the first case of this issue I’ve seen on the forum and I keep a relatively close eye on reported 3.0 problems.

Hell if they were pulling the cab the least they could've done was hemi swap it for you🤣

Sorry to hear it man, hope it all works out for you in the end! Take it as a sign that particular engine was not meant to be in that particular chassis.

Well, since they have the tub off, you might throw on a body lift kit on it. Or not.

Not sure how many times you have changed the oil during that year, but a used oil analysis (UOA) would have detected coolant in the oil. Obviously, timing is of the essence because coolant in the oil will destroy the engine in short order.

Hopefully, they will have you back on the road soon.

It was changed twice by the dealer. n never mentioned anything about coolant in the oil.
Are they supposed to do a UOA with every oil change?

No; a UOA is something the owner would do and for clarity, you should not be expected to nor should the engine require it. However, given the issues with the oil coolers on the FCA engines (gasoline and now, perhaps diesel too), I UOA every one of my oil changes so that I can detect any coolant leaks early as well as look at the health of the oil. The oil would start becoming milky colored if there is a fair amount of coolant in the oil, but if there is a large leak, it would ruin the oil pretty fast so a UOA is good for early detection.

I've changed my oil twice now, and both times I had to remove/reseat the oil filter to clear a "low oil pressure" dash message - pressure at idle was in the low teens. I've changed a lot of oil and I've never had this happen before - now it's happened both times. And...this was after generously lubing the new filter's rubber gaskets. At least after reseating filter, all was well.

OP, condolences. On the bright side, you've got a new engine.

I've heard this how the turbo is replaced as well...pull the body.
Remember back when you could see dirt under the engine when you raised the hood??
