Grrr...Took the diesel in today for it's second Jeep Wave oil change. First one went great, this one...took FOREVER and the asshat dumped the old black oil filter oil on the engine that when I got home it was dripping off the frame and onto the floor...and I had to wash the engine bay. These guys either don't care or their dumb as dirt.

Install a Fumoto valve to make home oil changes a snap, and then pass on your remaining free oil changes. That said, the diesel's oil filter location does make completely drip-free changing a little harder than the Pentastar.

My vote is dumb as dirt. You should set up a poll.

I think some of these guys are picked up on the corner like builders pu framers. I do my own oil and diff changes. Don’t ever watch them, it will scare the hell out of you.

Took mine in for the first oil change with no issues. Had a little uneasy feeling when the service writer said " We haven't seen many of these (3.0 diesel) come through. We usually see the 2.0 turbo diesel more often" I wanted to correct him, but what do I know??? :headbang:

So for the first change 6k miles ago, the dealer put in Rotella Syn...this time the same dealer says they got a bulletin from Mopar that the REQUIRED oil is nothing else than the recommended Euro stuff and ANYTHING else has been known to cause turbo failure.

Well, it's got the Pennzoil Euro...at frigg'n $9.00/qt for 9 quarts and the filter listed for $89.00, tire rotation gets $19.00...dang, you're talking $220 for an oil change and rotation...all free, but...

When the free Jeep finger wave is gone, guess who is doing this job...

When you consider that they use minimum wage employees to do oil changes, and most dealers are still using the wrong oil, and enough dealers were using the wrong oil filters that FCA felt it necessary to send out a TSB highlighting why you cannot use a Gen 2 filter on a Gen 3 engine... it makes me wonder why anybody would take their EcoDiesel to a dealership for oil changes.

Free isn't so free anymore when an $8/hour worker who doesn't give a rip screws up your $8k engine. Buy a Fumoto valve, shop for your filters at dieselfiltersonline.com, get your oil from Amazon delivered to your door, and know that the job is done correctly at each interval.

For what it is worth, you probably just have an idiotic dealer. My dealer in CO has been good enough that I have considered that I may still use them after the three Jeep wave changes. I am the type of person who so strongly recommends to do it themselves that it actually became a regular thing at my last job where I would do classes for the new undergrad interns who didn't know how. (Keep in mind we were all software and hardware engineers, not mechanics or anything where that would normally make sense)

Sorry to say my dude, but welcome to the world of Diesel. I haven't seen a diesel since I have been an Adult (I am almost 40) whose oil change isn't at least $150 (inflation adjusted) just in parts. Diesels are the antithesis of cheap.

Another key ingredient to the Fumoto process is 3/8" ID (10mm) clear tubing. I cut off a foot-long piece to attach to the Fumoto and direct drained oil into a container - not a drop will spill.

Same here.

For cars that use 5 quarts or less I like to drain directly into the jug I saved from a previous oil change.

For this engine the 9 quarts means I have to drain into a bigger container first. That's less convenient but it still works.
