Trying to do the update now and it isn't working. I tried a sands, no go. They I grabbed a Lexor. No go. Now I am trying to format and erase the Lexor as it had some files on it. We will see if this works.

  1. Check online and said an update was available.
  2. Downloaded from Mac to first USB (Sandisk, 3.0, 32gb) Brand new USB no formatting.
  3. Then erased files off old Lexor, didn't work. Was formatted to something funky like MS-Dos so I erased and formatted to exfat and trying that.
I unmarried the Taser and put all that back to original before I started all this. What a cluster.
Nothing worked for me. I tried formatting the two different USB's to all the different formats. Does someone have the file that works? Is it vin specific? If not could someone send it to me on their USB. Once I download it I will send it back.

Sandisk Ultra (Bought the 2-Pack, UPC #619659168551)
USB 3.0 - 32gb I didn't format it, just left it as is out of the packet.
Used the port in the dashboard, I think it's #1, it's in the "Media" section with the auxiliary inputs
Downloaded to desktop, extracted to USB
File Name: UCONNECT_8.4_IR21.10_MY18JL_VP4R_USA.zip

FYI, I put mine in the drive before I started the Jeep, it immediately recognized there was an update when I started the Jeep, then it took 45-50 minutes to complete (It said on the screen 65'ish, but took slightly less)
Agree with Goin2drt. @JSFoster75 So how much would you want to ship that USB drive over the mountain to NC!? ;]

I'll bet a $1 it doesn't work! (because its a larger engineering issue.)

After I update my wife's jeep, how about $10 shipped and you can keep the drive?

Hold up I asked first ;-). I will send you a shipping label. If it works on mine I will then pay it forward and we can keep passing it along.

How about if I make a copy and send it to both of you LOL $10/ea for the drives shipped (both are 32gb, bought yesterday).

Thats those Kalifornians for ya! ;]

But you have to confirm the second copy works!? ;] (thats the whole point) A known working moving to a probably not work. PM Sent.

Maybe create and test verify the second one on your wifes?
The other option is the insert into existing and should pop the "cannot upgrade to the <same> version" error message at least showing the drive is reading. Confirmation condition has to be verified.

Either way, I'm betting it wont work... (educated cynical engineering hunch) ;]

And even more ironic... $10 right... I asked uConnect & @JeepCares to do this over a year ago and the declined and made me go to the dealer that I knew would mess this up. Would have only cost them $10 last year. Now cost me 3hrs at a service center that made it worse, and a year of "bull stuff"... All to save $10... A sad state of poor customer service. Way to make quality job 1! (oh wait, wasn't that Fords old motto...) lol

OMGoodness... It gets worse... Finally got my call back from "specialist" F@$##$y... Couldn't even grasp the problem, had no tools, had no solution, wanted me to go back to the dealer!?

Why call me back with no information, no path to correct, and no clue!?
All he could do was "send and email" (I could do that!?) and have someone call me back in another 24hrs!? (or just a ploy to get me off the phone and wait another year...)

What have we become...

I used a MAC, first try didn't work then I realized when unzipping it created a top-level folder which is why The Jeep did not see the update when I inserted the USB Drive. The instructions state you should have two folders at the top-level: 1) map_package 2) VP4R_Update . If they are nested inside of a top-level folder then copy them to the root folder of the USB Drive and delete the folder named: UCONNECT_8.4_IR21.10_MY18JL_VP4R_USA . Also I used FAT32 for my drive format. Hope that helps some folks.

Would this executable interfere?

This is the trick right here. Should be a sticky at the top. Only difference is I used FAT as I didn't have a FAT32 option when formatting. Thanks for the help. I guess my $10 USB I have coming I will use for something else ;-)

Steps I had to do. Using MAC. My times could be off a bit but it does take a while.
  1. Format the USB so it is clean (FAT or FAT32 seem to work)
  2. Go to website, put in your vin and download the update. This takes about 20 minutes.
  3. Then open both folder the disk and your download and drag the downloaded "Uconnect" file over to your clean/empty USB. This will take about 20 minutes.
  4. Then open the USB, click on the UCONNECT folder and you will see the other two folders 1) map_package 2) VP4R_Update. Highlight those and select "copy"
  5. Go back one level higher to where the "uconnect" folder is and click paste. This will take about 20 minutes.
  6. Once you now have all three folders then drag the "uconnect" folder to the trash. Click and open the two other folders just to make sure files are present.
  7. Eject USB
  8. Plug into your Jeep and start your rig. click update and when the timer starts. Turn off your rig.
  9. Voila now wait 2 hours.

Glad it worked out for you! You don't know how many hours I have lost over the years tooling around with linux, windows, forensics and other "bootable" USB utilities. Each have their own magic you need to sprinkle just right else you want to take a hammer to everything!

These are pretty much verbatim what the instructions read and still dont work here for me. The only thing different here is you are on a mac and I am on PC.

The 1 thing i didnt try is using FAT instead of FAT32. Tried exFAT too. Trying that now today since @JeepCares and uConnect "Specialists" and "Advocates" are useless with a 365+ day turnaround time...
