Well, I wanted a Jeep starting back in the early 70's. I learned to drive at age 12 in one of these out in Anza Borrego:

Then my second car was a '63 Bug that I converted to a Baja bug (first was a '67 Bug). My buddies had various 4x4s, but a CJ was always an aspirational goal for me.

So only took me about 45 years to finally get there (though it is JL - close enough :like:)

First time Jeep owner, from a Toyota pickup that I had been driving since 1991.
(and thousands of miles in M151's a LONG time ago LOL)

Nine in 12 years:
  1. 2008 Sahara 2-door - Jeep Green with khaki soft top; bought used with 8,000 miles
  2. 2009 Rubicon 2-door - Jeep Green with black hardtop. Bought new 1 week before Chrysler filed for bankruptcy - dealer gave me 33% OFF MSRP!
  3. 2009 Rubicon 4-door - Bright Silver; used
  4. 2012 Rubicon 4-door - Dozer; factory ordered
  5. 2013 Rubicon 2-door - Commando with Saddle interior; new
  6. 2014 Sahara 4-door - Dune; bought used with 11,000 miles
  7. 2015 Sahara 4-door - Tank with Saddle interior; bought used with 5,000 miles
  8. 2018 JK Rubicon Recon 4-door - Gobi; new
  9. 2018 JL Sahara 4-door - Firecracker; new
For years I owned concurrently a 2-door Rubicon for off-roading, and a 4-door Sahara for road trips, particularly in winter.

My favorites were that 2013 Rubicon 2-door (Commando) and 2015 Sahara 4-door (Tank). My least favorite was that 2018 Rubicon Recon: it had the most expensive MSRP of all my Wranglers, but the build quality was total POS.

I am very happy with my current JL.

My favorite of the 9 Wranglers I owned was this 2015 Sahara 4-door: bought it used with 5,000 miles for $34,000 fully loaded; sold it with 30,000 miles for $30,000. It had a Mopar 2” lift, 34x10.5 KO2 “pizza cutters” and a rear TrueTrac.

It was completely trouble-free, cost me very little to own, drove great on-road, was extremely capable on the trail, and looked like a million bucks.

Getting ready to order a new JLU pretty soon. When I was in high school I had a 1965 CJ that was bright orange, 4 cylinder engine and even a crank windshield wiper. It would go anywhere in the dirt, but on the street only 50 mph down hill with a tail wind! It's been far to long without a good 4WD vehicle.
