Hey everyone, I just bought a 2021 JLUR with ~36k on it. When I first test drove it and for the first couple of days I had it I don't recall this happening. Let's say i'm in 3rd gear doing about 30 mph and a red light is coming up. So let off the gas get on the brake and at around 15mph I push in on the clutch and shift into neutral. Now as soon I push in on the clutch my RPMs start to drop with no issue and keep dropping while on the clutch. After i shift into neutral and let off the clutch my RPMs go back up to about 1500 or so. As the vehicle continues to slow the RPMs slow with it until I come to a complete stop at which point the RPMs are still a little hight at about 1.1k and after two seconds or so the RMPs will drop down to ~800 which is what I consider normal idle. It does this even after the engine is up to operating temp and like i said before I swear it didn't so this before. There are no odd sounds or feel in the clutch or smells. Wondering if this is a normal thing that jeeps do? My old Subaru Sti could be shifted into neutral at 90mph and the rpms went ~700 and that is the behavior I would expect out of any manual. Also it's only done this the last two trips i've taken, i'm going to drop it off for a clutch estimate in a couple hours and i wrote a note to the shop to check it as well. Clutch doesn't feel broken but i plan on replacing it with an ACT regardless (my Sti had an ACT clutch and it was great). Thanks for any input here.

I have a 2018 3.6 with a manual. Mine does not act like yours. I can shift to neutral at pretty any speed and rpm’s drop to normal idle.

So wait are you saying that if ur doing 40 and u shift to neutral they drop to less than 1k? You said yours acts like mine but mine keeps them up, just want to make sure I understand.

This is normal behavior due to emission controls. Nothing is wrong with your Jeep.

Oops. I edited my post to say mine does not act like yours. Drops to idle.

My 23 does this. As another person mentioned it has to do with emissions. Mine does it more frequently when it’s cold.

Agreed with @Aturking , mine seems to do similar behavoir with a colder engine. If I neutral roll out of the driveway before it reaches normal operating temps, it will ramp up the RPMs (in neutral) to about 1500. It is kind of annoying, but I figure it is some sort of computer controlled emission thing being cold. If I only drive a short distance and stop for like an hour, then coming back the RPM will stay high regardless of the engine temp being around 140* or so. Another slightly annoying "feature", but that's what we get with computer controlled drive by wire throttle in the name of emission regulations.

I really wish it didn't do this lol, side note the shop it took it to quoted me 2915 for the ACT clutch and that includes 8.4 hours of labor. ACT on their website says it should take 5.5 hours so this was way too high for me plus they said they had to order the part so the markup there as well. Called one of my local Jeep dealers and they told me just to order the part and they can do it in 4.8 hours plus they said they already had multiple clients put aftermarket clutches in and get reimbursed so I ordered the JP6 kit from ACT the other night for 1180 with shipping. Dealer charges 20 an hour more for labor but 3.6 hours time difference is huge. Plus I feel it looks better when submitting for reimbursement if an actual Jeep dealer does it.

My 2020 does this as well. I would say it's normal don't over think it. I suspect the ECU sees the speed and keeps rpm up for the next shift until you stop.

Same behavior for my 21 JL, once warm and up to operating temp it acts normal.

Ours maintains "above idle" revs, during gear shifts. I didn't question it, because I've seen lots of cars do this, over the years. It's usually an emissions thing. (In "Windows" terminology, "It's a feature!")
