God gave a rare late morning through afternoon off, so I went adventuring. This is on the way and at the Somerset Reservoir in Vermont, about 1 hour east of Bennington.
The rivers aren't quiet frozen over, but are fairly close.
Winter hiking has to be the most peaceful. The snow just blankets everything in quiet.
Ice at the edge of the lake gets pushed against the shoreline as it expands, and drips from the trees make stalagmites. Makes for lots of fun shapes and angles and lines.
The lake is iced over, but the weight of ice at the center pushes up a little water at various cracks, making for a little rivulett of water on top of the ice.
A feeding river to the lake is secretly flowing under the ice on top.
This lone tree out a bit from a peninsula is doing its best
And winter's evening glory is subtle and delicate, but still lovely.
And lastly, this rock used to be big.
Went out again today near Lake George, NY. These photos are from the eastern side of the lake, Shelving falls and Buck Mountain.
1 second exposure.
Panorama of the Adirondacks.
Ice and sunsets do nice things, from several different perspectives.
And finally, driving home with a clear sky, couldn't pass up the opportunity for a starry photo-op with the Jeep.
