nuke plants take a long time to come online. worth it though. we should start asap.
they cant even reopen the san onofre plant down near san diego. my friend, an engineer, was involved with that plant.

Don’t you just love the rich greenies promoting their electric cars and recycling as they pull into their massive 10,000 square foot home with 5 central heat/air units and giant kitchen with gas grills and stoves extra large fridge’s, swimming pools telling us peasants how we need to follow suit…do as I say not as I do šŸ˜Ž
Decades ago, IIRC, with the Sierra Club trying to get logging banned, and ocean front construction banned some Grand Pubah of theirs had a Redwood beach home. It has not changed.

Saw the topic and thought someone finally had some good info on a new engine selection for MY25 Wranglers.

You could get some major torque from electric motors powered by a nuclear power plant.
why i clicked on the thread. hoped it was parody/bait about how the BEV Wrangler is gonna have an option to sub out the range-extender generator for a small nuke+turbine a la Abrams or nuclear submarine. This would of course be used to charge the batteries and not for actual powertrain. Presumably because carrying enough nuclear fuel for regular driving would be a weapons proliferation issue, and also not qualify for the federal EV tax credits. 😜

Nah, I'm not worried about anything. All I'm saying is; to sustain the demand we'll more than likely need more nuclear power, windmills and solar aren't going to cut it and then I read that article I posted today.
I would also say that was pretty unclear from your post. It seemed like you were ranting against EV's because then we would need to have nuclear plants, which is bad because, reasons.

The fact is, nuclear is the only viable "green" option that currently exists today. Unfortunately, China is the only country who is actively installing "next generation" plants, that I am aware of at least.

Geothermal is another possible option, with companies like Quaise Energy an their plan to use plasma drills to get to depths needed for super critical steam. It's not been tried in real life yet though.

EVs or not, most of the western world needs to spend trillions to update their electrical infrastructure because it old as electricity and falling apart.
But, that means a shit ton of jobs, so it's not a bad thing.

Wife and I met working nuc. We were in R&D for uranium enrichment. She left there and went to Rocky Flats Arsenal, building nuc warheads. Although she was a double degreed engineer, she worked in assembly of the core. You had to be an engineer to turn a wrench in that place.

Nuclear fusion (if possible) is being heavily invested in. I don't think EVs are viable long term in their current state, but energy might not be an issue if this is successful:

If only - I’ve been hearing it’s about 7 years away since the late 70’s or early 80’s the latest does look promising though so maybe someday the 7 years will be accurate. šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

It was lightly mentioned, they might be remembered as " the days electricity was basically free."
Speaking of which, that was the promise in the 1960s with nuclear power generation. "Electricity will be too cheap to meter!"

But yes, I think nuclear is the way to go, especially with newer designs which sound like they're a lot safer. It's still not a renewable resource, but humanity can kick the can down the road yet again.

Solar and wind won't cut wha
You realize there is a 99.9% chance this forum (and all its sisters) are hosted at a data center?

Edit: For speed and reliability, often multiple data centers, but that’s not as likely as 999/1000.
Oh yes about everything being tied to Data Centers. That is the harsh reality. We have become servants of tech that are tied to us whether or not of necessity. Just like cities. The closer you live around a city the more you rely on it for needs. Funny thing is both are carbon foot prints that environmentalists are quiet about. Too much money at stake to change for the better. Environmental impact is too personal to realize you are forced into being the demise of the environment you live in. Silicon Valley at one time a generation ago, supported a means to be a natural resource. Now it's a dead zone of agriculture. Dead zones only get bigger at the cost of life. Grapes are only thing grown for the high priced wine. Eventually grapes will be dried up.

I make power (watts) by the millions or mega hence my name. You can make all the nuke plants you need. The problem is the transmission line age and capacity to move power to where it’s needed.

My work desk 12 hrs at a stretch.
