I worked almost 30 years in correctional facilities. You can bet some heads are going to roll over this. Still, I chuckle, because I have worked around true killers at can kill and then go take a nap or act like nothing happened. To them it is no different than any other normal task. Like hey, just killed someone, might as well get a cup of coffee and do some light reading.

I have stories. I like telling the funny ones best. At times I will get on a roll and and forget that not everyone is prepared for some of the things I say and some of the stories I may tell. There has been many times over the years where I have looked at someone that is listening to the story and realize that it is to crazy for them and they have the look of being shocked. Then I know I have to scale it back some. There are some things that I don't tell other people because if I told you, it will haunt you forever.

I can be entertaining around a camp fire.

My mom was a Superior Court Judge secretary in Atlanta and she would get "Jail Mail" and that were hilarious - the excuses these inmates had and why they needed to get out of jail was epic......so entertaining!

I read convict email each night. There was about a thousand or so key words or any attachments that would cause the email to be flagged and reviewed by staff. So of the stuff was just so stupid. Every once in a while I would get a good one. One wife wrote her husband the convict told him that she knew he was getting out in a few months and that she hated him. She wrote that she had sold his truck all of his tool, the house would be sold next week, all of the bank accounts had been emptied and closed and an attached picture was a man that she claimed fucked her nightly and that his kids called the man daddy now. She also wrote the divorce was final and that by the time he got out, she and the kids would be moved out west. She closed the email out with fuck you and I hate you. I giggled.

At time as the Shift Commander, I would be the highest ranking person at the prison after 4 pm. I would often have to deal with stuff that if it happened during the day, a clergy or a counselor would deal with. One of those things is notifying a prisoner of death in the family. So, one night I call a prisoner up to my office to tell him that his wife was killed in a car accident. No big deal for me, I have had to do this many times over the years, So I have some tissue set out and bring him into my office so that if he cries, other prisoners will not see him and give him a chance to call home. So prisoners do not want to get called up to see the Shift Commander ( Captain) It usually means they are in big trouble to have to talk directly to me. Mind you I hand out disciplinary actions and conduct prisoner investigations. So it is usually not a good thing.

So I bring him into the office have him sit down and tell him his wife as died in a car accident. He puts his head in his hands and gives out a big sigh and says, ( mind you I am expecting tears) "Man I hated that bitch, thanks Capt. that the best news I've gotten in years." He gets up and walks out of my office. I was like okay have a good night.

And yeah, back to prisoner email, I would have to review any picture that was sent in. What has been seen can not be unseen. I have seen some of the most gross and ugly naked people in the world. For every okay looking looking naked woman photo, there would be thousands of Oooo MY GOD please NO... NO NO NO. There was some prisoners that I told, tell your girl to stop sending in nude photos. She is killing me. Just stop.

As I said, some things just can not be unseen.

@wibornz you should start your own thread about that stuff. I'd subscribe to that in a heartbeat.

I did some volunteer work for a sheriffs dept in CA for about a year. Besides office work I got to do quite a few ride alongs and got to know the deputys pretty well. I decided against pursuing law enforcement as a career after I saw the crap those guys put up with. I would have ended up being the cop on the news that was recorded beating the crap out of someone....for being mouthy and stupid.
