While washing my week old JL for the first time my neighbor next door came over to take a look.
But he caught me off guard by asking what I paid...Its not like asking my wife's bra size but I don't think I would ask....and especially since he's not in the market.

Ideas?

Some people don't think twice about asking that type of question, people are definitely wired differently.
Just make up a crazy answer to mess with them

I don’t have a problem saying how much one of my vehicles cost.

It is not like they are asking me how much money I make.

Of course it depends on the person asking the question. If s/he has shown a pattern of misusing information in the past, I’d just say “More than I wished I had to pay but it is worth it to me.”

And don’t forget to grin...

IME, there are individuals who are tone-deaf as it concerns questions that the recipient will reasonably consider to be too personal. The sticker price of our vehicles is just the tip of that particular iceberg.

Occasionally, it's easy to determine if the questioner is just trying to be friendly. There are also those times when the rube simply doesn't care if you believe, or say, that your business is none of his business.

Nosy Nancys are out there and they're not going away, so in any instance, it's a matter of reading their bearing and responding in the manner that you choose.

Sharing info empowers consumers to negotiate good deals. Granted, this neighbor sounds more like they’re trying to evaluate how much disposable income you have.

It's not like they asked for your social security number or bank account number. But I understand. Without knowing their intent, you never know. Just say you got a good deal on it or something and leave it at that. And yeah, smile
Maybe even put up a fence.
