Today is a non-Jeep day for me, which is rare these days. Fuel pump and level sensor replacement. Easily top 5 of the worst jobs for a corvette mechanic. I’ve padded the windows and hid all expensive things so they don’t get broken later when whipping 3/4” wrenches at 86mph across the shop. Lol.

Hurricane Creek Ride

I was in Asheville for work this week and decided to hit Hurricane Creek. I bought a drone a few weeks ago so I used it to shoot some footage.

The 1:02 mark shows a good comparison of lockers vs. open/BLD diffs. I got hung up in a rut with the diffs open. I possibly could have made it through without lockers if I backed up and took a different line, but the Jeep was sliding towards the ledge so rather than take any chances I just locked both diffs and walked right over it. 1:02 is the attempt with open diffs, and then at 1:09 I locked them. I edited out about 10 seconds of dead air as I waited for the diffs to lock.

Its worth noting I ran the whole trail at 30psi since I didn’t have my power tank with me, but it’s still a good example of the difference lockers can make.

I've seen Brown Mountain OHV Trail mentioned a few times on here, and figured I'd post some info on it after running it yesterday.

Location: 1610 Brown Mountain Beach Rd, Morganton, NC 28655 (North of I40, about an hour east of Asheville, Hour and a Half NW of Charlotte.)

Cost: $5 single Day, $35 annual. There was a general store accross from the entrance that sells them but they were closed, grabbed ours from a gas station about 4 miles down the road.

Difficulty: Moderate, depending on the line you take. A stock JKU Sahara was in front of us for about half the run and had some tire lift and skid plate contact, no one got stuck. Lifted on 35s @18psi, we had no issues in 4hi the whole time, no skid contact, and tapped a slider once purposely taking tougher lines. You'll definitely have some minor tree branch contact on the thinner sections.

Description: Only trails 1 and 8 allow Jeeps, the rest of the park is Dirtbike/SxS/ATV. Trail 1 is a combo of two way and a loop, about 11 miles for the full loop which took us a little over 2 hours. Part of the Pisgah NF, some camping, nice parking at trail head with facilities and ATV offload ramps and a picnic pavilion. 1,800 ft elevation gain per AllTrails. We went the day after several days of rain and the trail had drained nicely with just a few muddy low spots. Fairly rocky with bypasses for most of the more difficult sections. There was enough traffic on an October Sunday that I wouldn't worry about finding someone to give you a tug if you got hung up. No cell service on AT&T or Sprint for several miles around the park.

My wife was pretty freaked out after we saw a bobbed Taco with a blown motor (blowing oil bad) drive around the parking lot into the trail and break a front driveshaft about 100 yds in, lol. She felt a lot better a little ways into the trail.

As we were leaving, a stock LR4 was coming up the road to the trailhead, and she just laughed ("should we go back and tell him he's in the wrong place?")

Yes, that’s correct. I think the overlook is technically about 2-3 miles from the Tennessee line, but if you follow the forest road from one end to the other you’ll either start or end in TN.

Anyone have any info on how to get to Goat Trail/12 Mile?

Met a gentleman this morning in a red JL with 40s. Told me about this trail and I'd like to find it for tomorrow.
