From the videos and pictures, it looks pretty tame. Only a couple places with rocks. I think it’s going to be a little sloppy this weekend from the snow melt.

I talked to the owner yesterday and he said the only place I may have an issue is on one steep hill climb (since I’m on KO2s).[/QUOTE]

I'm stoked about hearing about this place let and what you find, maps, etc. Wish I could join you tomorrow.

@UNC Rubicon and myself hit up Patriot Mountain Off Road Park today. It’s a pretty small trail system, but worth the trip. It was pretty sloppy in there and we got there early as things were still frozen. The mud thawed quickly and made a mess.

We had to winch up a couple hills because of slick it was. All in all, not a bad place to stretch your 4x4 legs, but it’s small. If you’re thinking about heading out that way, I would plan to have some activities accompany this one. If it’s dry, you can run all the trails in an hour or two.

The Jeep’s look great muddy!

My wife, kids, and I left for Boone yesterday afternoon. Spent the afternoon at Mystery Hill then got ready for Patriot Mountain Off Road Park today. @chevymitchell met us at our hotel and we convoyed over to Patriot Mountain about 10am.

There, we met the owner, Joel. He is a super nice guy and goes out of his way to make you feel like family. After talking to him for a bit, we headed out.

Joel said it would be sloppy and boy was he right. I’m running KO2s, while Shawn is on STT Pros. He had an easier time than I did. He had to winch on Hooker Hill and I had to winch a couple times.

This was my first time getting stuck and I was fortunate to be with Shawn. He was a calming and reassuring influence. We easily winched out of our predicaments and made our loop.

We passed on several trails as Joel didn’t have any updated maps. It took us about 2 hours but we could have made the loop in about 45 minutes if it had been dry.

Like Shawn said, it’s a nice place to get your feet wet (no pun intended) and would be a nice easy outing if dry. There are places to camp and will soon have river access.

It was a good time, man. I would love to head out to Windrock in TN when I get back from India and Germany. There are 3 badge trails out that way and it would be an easy 2 day excursion. Maybe we can plan on going in early March...?

Brett @UNC Rubicon and Shawn @chevymitchell Looks like y'all had a blast. Would have been good to try to keep up with y'all.

At the very least, I was with another Jeep this weekend at the campgrounds.

It’s funny you mention getting stuck and unstuck. I was a little nervous until the winch came out for the first time. It’s very reassuring to know you can get yourself unstuck. After we winched up the first hill, it was nothing but fun.

This was in Advance, Forest Lake RV and Camping resort. Mostly RVs but they have some tent camping and cabins as well. What I thought were Jeep trails on the google satellite turned out to be "Foot Traffic Only" It was still very nice and quiet there, and not terribly expensive.

So a quick story/gripe for my fellow NC peeps. A buddy of mine has a nicely lifted ,accessorized, and under utilized JLU Moab. Guy has never been wheelin so I thought I would invite him out for a trip to Uwharrie this beautiful weekend with a couple of other buddies. Idiot me didn't recall that they close the Uwharrie OHV trails seasonally and nobody else thought to check either. Drove all the way from CLT and turned around for the trip home.....Doh! Why the F do they close Uwharrie for the season?? I mean wheelin is a year round activity! So annoying!

Its hard to find places other than Uwharrie to go wheeling. Most of the time its all State Property, Private Property or right next to the Neo-Nazi/KKK biker gang hangout...(Long story:facepalm:)

Yeah man...I started searching around and the only real options in Western/Central NC for Jeeps are Uwharrie and Brown Mountain. Brown Mountain only has one or two trails that Jeeps can access. I'm interested in "Flats Park" as an option if anyone has any experience there.

Uwharrie closes this time of year for Erosion protection. With the rain and snow comes a period of thawing/draining. In order to preserve the trail systems, they need to keep vehicles off the trails until the winter season is over. There's a lot of parks that do this. Some of them only close certain trails and leave the easy/moderate trails open. Uwharrie simply closes them all.
