Trying to plan out how I can negotiate being a DD and off-road capability, really like keeping the low center of gravity I have right now.
you pretty much have that set up now since it a rubicon. the only thing you will need is a winch. maybe a different winch bumper, unless you have the rubicon bumper. upgrade could be to get a set of beefier skid plates. that pretty much it.

i'm in the same boat as for keeping mine a dd and have the offroad capablity as i mentioned in the post. i'm starting out with a sport and adding what i want and need, while keeping it simple, light weight and low cost. i'm not for all the bells and whistles. just plain n simple and have if multi functional both on and off road.

I overbuilt my previous JK and Tacoma Off Road, and I absolutely refuse to do that with my Rubi.

I don't rock crawl, I never developed the taste for it, so my 35s and rock sliders get me a truly long way when off roading. A buddy with a winch does the rest, if needed.

A fully modded Wrangler looks absolutely awesome... I fully understand its appeal, I did give into it in the past, but now I refuse to do that only for looks. Just my personal stoic approach (in case anybody is interested in reading about it).

I definitely agree with everyone. I like the low CG, and the Jeep will do way more than I am capable of doing. I do love seeing one that someone has spent $10-$15,000 on huge wheels and a lift, but I’m content with the way mine looks. For sure going to get better shocks though.

Lol, yep. Fastest production Jeep ever until probably the 4xE comes out. We'll see, though, if it is as quick. Maybe not, but it'll be close!
The 2.0t is faster than the v6 and the ecodiesel is faster than both...

I’m with you. I like my Jeeps with enough mods to look good, but subtle enough so that it still looks “stock.” I like people to think it is just a good-looking stock Jeep.

In my book, there’s nothing better than what looks like a “stock“ Jeep doing some pretty gnarly stuff on the trail.

My next mod will likely be a Mopar front steel bumper. I may eventually get a lift, but I’ll keep those tires tucked within the fenders, on factory-looking wheels.

Wheeled our jlu rubicon stock for the first year, nothing hardcore, but some pretty tough trails. Brewer lake ohv trail near shaver lake and sleeping princess mine trail outside bull head city (the hard way up to the right) were probably the most difficult and definitely did some belly dragging. Our first ever Moab trip called for some upgrades. Budget 2” spacer lift and some 37x12.50 Yokohama geolander x-mt’s on stock rims to cut down on the belly dragging and vastly improve the capability of the Jeep. $170 lift kit and $2k in tires and this thing is a beast. Fins &things, hell’s revenge, top of the world, poison spider, golden spike, and gold bar and it walked right up everything. Much less stress not listening to the scraping, even if it was just skids. Don’t be afraid of a mild lift. Drives nearly the same, cog isn’t too high, doesn’t feel tippy on steep off camber climbs, and allows you to take the hard line if you’re in the mood.

I did Swamp Lake trail, near Shaver Lake, years ago. It was a tough 20-mile long trail with some beautiful camping areas at the top.

I took my brand-new, totally stock 2012 JKUR. Some of the experienced in the group said Swamp Lake trail is as difficult as the Rubicon, but a lot less known.

When I got back it got a new rear driveshaft, a lift and 35” tires.

Stock Tires/wheels/suspension JLUR here. Roam frame mount rails are about the only functional mod on the outside.

I don’t do hard stuff. Bunny slopes work for me.

Swamp lake is definitely on our list, did the dusy ershim trail years ago in our old rigs. 89 xj hp44 front, Dana 60 rear, 35’s, beadlocks, etc and 01 grand Cherokee, 1 tons, coilover rear, triangulated 4 link, 3 link front, 35’s. Decided to go back to a 1 Jeep family so the 2019 jlu was purchased as the wife’s daily and weekend warrior. The xj is gone, the wj is still in the driveway. One day I may get around to swapping the transfer case and green stickering it, unless of course somebody wants an awesome off road toy?

Show me a published time 0-60 quicker than 6.5. I've not seen another that quick. There is no diesel 2 door, btw, so it gets a weight penalty. I've driven a 2.0 JLU. Not as quick as the JLU manual.

Not saying it isn't out there. Just that I've not seen it. I have seen the diesel 4 door post quicker times than the 3.6 4 door, though. Just haven't seen one test quicker than the 2 door Sport V6 /manual.

Same 6.5s in a 4 cyl. Rubicon, but literally every head to head, real world comparison I've seen has had the 2.0t beating the v6. I haven't driven a diesel, but having driven the V6 and the 2.0t the 2.0t feels more powerful. Paper numbers mean little to me, having driven both at altitude, I wouldn't even consider the v6.

wear out the factory 245 tires, then upgrade to 32s (maybe 33s).
245/75-17 are theoretically 31.5". I've been looking for Rubicon takeoff tires but thinking if I don't find any and have to buy tires myself I might even go with 275 instead of 285. I don't think I need larger diameter although when the time comes I might be irrational. I would like a bit more contact patch and tougher tread and sidewalls.

Did most of the trails thru 7 rating in Moab bone stock off showroom floor.

Only upgraded because I plan on doing some of the harder 7's+ next year and probably the Rubicon trail (no experience there, don't want a ton of damage). But I'm switching to running 35's for daily use.

I have no doubt I could have gotten it through fins &things, hell’s revenge, and even poison spider stock. More belly dragging than I care to endure. Top of the world had a couple ledges where we drug with the 2.5” lift and 37’s, it would have been rock stacking and dragging to get up that trail stock.

Yep, I drug XD -- but mainly in Golden Spike which calls for 35's (I don't think I drug once any other trail?). I don't care though that's what it's built for... just rock rails and skid plates anyway. No damage. Could turn the vehicle in after the lease with no issue. The only sketchy parts were really in Golden Spike... but the rest of the trails I never had a concern with doing any damage stock. Other than a couple of obstacles (which had bypasses if needed), it actually felt somewhat overbuilt for those trails.

Either way, fun no matter what you brung!
