Personally, I prefer the tucked-in look of the tires fitting within the fenders

I think your rig will look amazing with the Altitude wheels you already have and a set of 285/75R18 (35x11) tires.

Here are some examples of that size tire on other people's Jeeps. The Punk'n Sahara belongs to @Arterius2

BTW, those are 285/75R18 Duratracs; they measure a whopping 35.2 inches.
That is some great info. This is by far the hardest decision I had to make since buying this thing! haha!!

This is probably a stupid question, but oh well. On the 18" Altitude wheel, It is running just road tires 255/70R18. But for my taste, they are a bit too tucked into the fender. So if I kept the standard wheel and did 285/75R18, would that extra inch or so in width help that look, where the tire may be at least a bit more flush to the outside edge of the fender?

Yes. That's what you can see on both those examples: tires fit flush.

Just having a taller tire alone is going to make your Jeep look so much better; tire width is secondary.

You all rock!! Thank you all so much for the lessons today!

I'm trying to soak it all in as quick as possible. Dealer called and they have me scheduled for next Wednesday, so now to nail down the shoes, and she should be ready.

I appreciate all of your time and expertise! So glad to have finally joined the Jeep community, best ever!!

Good morning all. I was just notified by the dealer that my Mopar 2" lift is in. Was supposed to have 2 months of it on back order. But it delivered in 3 days!

So scrambling to figure out tires.

My JLU is still pretty factory. It is a sting gray Sport Altitude with 18" wheels, and factory front/rear bumpers and fenders.

I had my heart set on doing an 18"x9" wheel and 35x12.5x18 tires. However, talking with a few people around town that are longtime Jeepers, they are telling me that they won't clear, and that I probably need to stick to 33s. However, I have seen pics of Sports with that same setup. But I wanted to stop in here and ask all you pros out there.

This is my everyday drive, and my wife and daughter do drive it time to time. So looking to keep the handling as smooth as possible. May be some small trail drives in my future, but not anything big or major where I need tons of flex.

Do I need to drop the dream of 35s with the Mopar 2" lift on a Sport? Thank you all!

Well I have 2.5 spacer lift with 17x9s and 35s. Fit is fine with no rubbing. Actually what will rub is the front cowling, depending on how knobby your tires are. So you will need to cut that (super simple).

Welcome to the forum.

35s will fit just fine with a Mopar lift.

I got 3.5 inches of lift with the 2-inch Mopar lift. I got plenty of room; I could possibly even fit 36s.

Where you need to be careful, though, is with the wheel spacing. Mounting 35x12.5 tires on OE wheels will rub. Besides, that width is beyond tire manufacturers’ recommended for a 7.5-inch wide rim; most shops won’t even mount a 12.5-inch tire on a 7.5-inch rim.

If you want to keep your Altitude wheels, which I think you should, I’d look into 285/75R18 tires. They measure 35x11.2.

Good luck!
Love the old school white wheels & raised white letter tires.

The Nitto data says these tires are 33.86" tall, approx. 1.75" taller than the 255s that came on it.

The lift will be installed soon and I will be going to 35s after it is done.

‘Your stock tires are pretty much 32 x 10, staying with the same rims you will split any width increase evenly along the centerline of the rim. So going to 12.5 wide would push 1.25" to the outside and 1.25" to the inside. Seems like you could take a rough measure to see where the extra width would fill too.

Thank you for the two sets of pics. Definitely gave me a good view of what I’m looking at! And love that color too!

this pic is 35x13.50, on a 17x9 -12mm. They poke about 3.5-4 inches out and have no rub with the mopar lift (non rubicon). I have 35x12.50s as well but they kinda look too small. I strongly recomend you do 35s.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
If you are intending to replace wheels, you could go with 17" wheels to give more tire options.
x2, also have just a bit taller sidewall too! And FWIW the 17" tires and wheels are typically a bit cheaper as well, so wins all around!

Mickey thompson baja pro xs. Theyre loud, even louder on highway. Wears super quickly. Bias ply and only rated for 60mph. Theyre a wicked tire but id only get them for a second set. I find it exhausting to run them for more than 5 days ish.

How is the handling on the 285/75? I know I'm just doing the Mopar lift, so 2", and then possibly adding some inches with the bigger tire. But with my wife and 16yr old daughter driving it some, does it handle good on corners and stuff? I have read some other places that if you go taller, you want to push the wheels out to help protect against rollovers. Just curious your experience. Thanks!

I haven't driven that particular size. But I had 34x10.2 KO2s on my 2015 Sahara, and on this Sahara I've had the OE 255/70R18 (32x10), 275/75R18 (33x11) and now these 35x12.5: I find that the narrower tires retain more of the factory ride and handling. The wider tires transmit a little bit of shaking/bouncing through the steering wheel, and tend to pull the steering wheel side-to-side when you stomp on the brakes on uneven surfaces.

I ordered a Fox 2.0 steering damper to help control the side-to-side pulling of the 35s. Hopefully it helps.
