So I just hit 65,000. after warranty expired my JL transmission failed. Driving it the a go my RPM went super high, then later I tried leaving house it wont shift. Once I finally got it going it only drove 15 mph and if I touch gas the RPMs go sky high, but no power. Should I go to local shop or dealership and should I get it rebuilt or a new transmission. Anyone know the average cost?

I'm assuming you have an automatic? I would have the shop look at it, it might just be the computer and not the actual transmission. My 04 TJ did the same thing and it was just the TCM which I was able to replace for under $700. I see you are in GA. There is a really good shop in Liburn...Superstar Customs. Look them up, they do a lot of work on Jeeps and from everyone I know that has had work done by them has been very pleased.

So what caused the " internal failure of the transmission "?
At 65,000 miles, that's only 5,000 miles past powertrain warranty. It could be argued that the total failure originated at or before that 5,000 miles, especially since no " abuse or damage" was found. FCA should cover this , as part of Damage Control, and Customer Goodwill, at the very least. Can you escalate this up the Corporate ladder ?
Nothing to lose, at this point.

I had a friends that just went out at 12,000. He said it was a pump of some sort. Luckily warranty cover it.

Jeep was great. I did call corporate and they paid 4,200 out of 5,200. They were very nice. I just got the email and check for amount this week.

They didn't ask questions or anything. Called dealership and sent me the check.

The good news is if you purchase the JL it has 60,000 mile warranty, however new transmissions afterwards has 100,000 mile warranty. Same transmission but warranty is different. Not sure why. Im thankful jeep had good faith and I respect the company more. and now I have a brand new transmission with 100,000 mile warranty.
