Is there any reason why a synthetic cable cannot replace a steel cable on a winch? On my '40 wrangler, I have an ancient winch with a steel cable, I have been wanting to replace - if you shop around you can find suitably strong synthetic cable for $100. All that said - I am looking to add a winch on my '20 Rubicon, and I am noticing that the synthetic cable winches are a good three to four hundred bucks more than the steel cable winches. Seems like I could save myself a few hundred bucks. I guess I would need to buy the appropriate fairlead, but... is this not something that makes sense? What am I missing?
