Jeep Wrangler JL New Mod - bumper and winch off IMG_8987

I scored the bumper and winch off marketplace. Brand new and a fraction of the price. Not my first choice in bumper, but couldn’t pass up the deal. Now I feel like these 285’s are tiny. 305’s a deal breaker for stock rubicon gearing?

I think you mean '315's and they work fine with the Rubicon's stock 4.10 gearing. I ran those on my 315's (35's) until I went to 37's and very little noticeable difference from 285's (33's). I do have the 8sp auto however and that will make a difference...

Definitely 315. I am 8spd auto as well. It seems to hunt sometimes in 8th, maybe it’s just me.

Don't forget to calibrate for the increase in tire size, your dealer can do it for you but prices range from $150-$300+. Do yourself a favor and get a Taser JL Mini for around $300 and do it yourself. You will then have a host of other options like turning off the annoying ESS...

You're much better off using JScan for tire size and gear swaps, that way it's not reliant on the Tazer being plugged in in the event it needs to be removed for dealer service. It's also much cheaper at $20 for the license, $13 for the gateway cables, and then the OBD2 adapter that many people already have.

Well shoot, I should have checked this sooner. Already ordered a tazer.

I just bumped up to 315/70/17 with stock gearing this week and don't notice any difference

The Tazer has some additional cool functions, so it's not a waste. It will also serve to eliminate the need for the gateway cables when using Jscan if you decide to grab a license and OBD2 adapter. Considering your Jeep is out of warranty there's also less concern about removing the Tazer if it has to go to the dealer for anything, but if there's a chance they're touching your computer it needs to be unmarried and removed (which will default you back to all stock settings).

The 8sp auto does a great job of compensating for larger tires, but your speedometer/odometer are definitely off now and the shift points slightly altered. Some people don't notice, but it's there.

for those who don't notice a difference going from stock to 35's with 4.10's should try going from 35's back to stock tires and that is where you feel the difference. I think people are so excited to get 35's they might not feel the difference but when you go back the other way it is like you gained 30hp....

315 on stock Rubicon 4.10 gearing is feasible, but anyone saying that it is optimum sure as heck haven’t tried that same Jeep with 4.56 or 4.88 gearing. At a Jeep meet, I had a friend with a Rubi claim that his Jeep turned the 315s just fine until I threw him the keys to my Jeep for a quick spin around the block. 2 weeks later he was having it regeared.
