Just got the wifey a new jeep ... JLU Freedom Sport Edition. First jeep

Only issue I have right now is she wants a black grille with the Matte Finish.

There are two types of MOPAR replacement grilles I believe:

https://www.quadratec.com/p/mopar/grille-wrangler-jl which is matte painted and requires https://www.quadratec.com/p/mopar/grille-molding-kit-gladiator-jt. I understand I need these moldings to use the replacement grille ... looks like they won't match the matte painted grille and would require some type of matte painting. Any idea what paint that is and is it easy enough for someone to do themselves?

Or get this part https://www.quadratec.com/p/mopar/grill-assembly-jeep-wrangler-jl but again needs to be matte painted. Would I have to find a body shop to do that or is it something easy.

I'd appreciate your input.

Thanks

Well 29708, just give her your credit card and let her buy the one that she wants. That way it won’t be the man’s fault when it’s not right and doesn’t live up to her expectations.

Unfortunately on the Sport the moldings don't come off the Grille ... only Rubicons and Saharas

Still hoping someone has some experience matte painting the trim pieces. Or knowing how bad they look if they start fading.

if you buy the black satin grill you will need the 2 side and the 1 center piece here is a link to the missing part you forgot. you will need to have them color matched to your jeep so it will cost alot extra. you can try to paint them yourself with a few cans of the spray paint you can get from jeep no idea how it will look or how good you are at it.

long story short get a can or 2 of Platidip from home depot or lowes and see if you like it first

At this point I think I am going to by the primed sport grille and have it painted at a local body shop.

If you decide to get the first grille from Mopar, I have the inserts I'm selling on Marketplace. And oddly, we are in the same city.....small world I guess!
