Took delivery last week of a JL Sport S. Took it on a long trip to North Carolina and the CEL came on. I had it checked out by a dealer in NC and was told it was a Cylinder 1 misfire stored code. The service department there told me it was okay to drive it back home to TN and check it out with my local dealer.

Scheduled an appointment and just got feedback on the work being done. They replaced the coil pack and spark plugs but the CEL still remains. The tech is working with Chrysler directly for the next steps. They are really not sure if it may be electrical or mechanical. Any suggestions as to what other potential items may be the cause. Overall less than 1,000 miles in and this is the first jeep I've owned.....what a disappointment.

Well that sucks!! Make sure and start documenting the issues and check out lemon laws in your home state in case there are further issues.
You also might contact @JeepCares here on the forum. They have helped a number of forum members escalate an issue if its not taken care to your satisfaction.

Hi cSquared,

We are terribly sorry to hear that this has been your initial experience with the Jeep brand. Please send us a PM with your VIN and dealer so that we can provide additional assistance while your Jeep is in service.

@JeepCares PM sent

Dealer is speculating that variable valve timing maybe culprit. Seems as if they’re guessing. Really concerned about deep engine issues with less than 1000 miles.

Engine sounded normal. Slight loss of power in acceleration when the light came on but then went back to normal

Well hopefully it’s not an internal mechanical defect and just sonething simple like a faulty sensor.

Please keep us posted.

Telling me rocker arms are being replaced. Takes 3-5 days to get in the parts.

there's absolutely no way shifting production of these engines to Mexico recently could have had any effect on build quality!!!

Service Manager said this was the 2nd one he had to replace rocker arms within 1000 miles of new. I'm petitioning Jeep for an exchange since its 1 week old and less than 1000 miles.

Wow. So basically similar problem that is shown in the video? The rocker arm seized up in the video.

I would not be happy either. At minimum they should provide lifetime warranty on engine. I would be worried there is hidden damage to other parts like camshafts and valves.

Jeep customer care washed their hands of it and pointed me back to the warranty. Said if i wanted anything further I'd have to talk to the sales department at the dealer. So much for standing by a product that was flawed at the time of delivery.

Hopefully the dealer will make it right.

Would fixing it be considered making it right? It's up to the dealer to trade you out of your jeep now. If you have the same issue multiple times then Jeep will step in.

Jeep produced an engine that had a significant issue with less than 1000 miles on it. There is a high likelyhood that future issues will arise from this. So no I don't feel that simply repairing the rocker arm is sufficiently standing behind their product.
