Pretty much since I built the off road camper and took the first long trip, I've been thinking how much nicer swapping out my trusty Ram DT for a 3/4 ton would make these kind of trips. Tow the Jeep and camper (or rebuild the camper onto the tongue of a car hauler) and have the larger room for the 30+ hour (one way) hauls across the country from NC.

I bought my Ram 1500 as soon as they were on the lots, a 19 MY purchased in 18. It's been a great truck, so my first thought was how awesome an AEV Prospector style build on 37s would be as a daily driver and tow rig for our adventures.

Decided I was going to pull the trigger a few months back and started research, and the appartent never ending wait for Ram to release the 2025 MY info, even if I had to wait months for an order. Well, I got tired of waiting after checking out Chevy's updated interior in person. Grabbed an inbound dealer stock order a couple weeks back and picked her up last night.

Newest member of the family, the 25 Chevy 2500 HD ZR2 in 6.6L gas flavor with the 10 speed Allison.

The HD ZR2 is basically an offroad high country 1.5" lift, trick Multimatic DSSV Shocks, rear locker, 35s stock.

37" Ridge Grapplers go on this afternoon, I've got a tool bag with trim tools if necessary, but all signs and reports point to no clearance issues.

Good looling truck ! What gear ratio ? Any idea on fuel milage yet ?
I have a month old ford I absolutely despise .
Was really impressed on Chevy’s option offerings on their models, especially compared with Stellantis. You can almost option almost all the high end model stuff on an LT one by one. But… no choice on rear end. All gassers are 3.73 and Diesels are 3.42. With 10 speeds to play with in the Allison I think it will make up for the taller gears,

Hard to say on mpgs so far, but I’ll update. Traffic in Charlotte tends to be crappy this time of year. 13 ish so far, compared to 15 ish in my Ram 1500 5.7 doing the same thing. That’s just a couple days though.

Good looking truck. Wasn't aware they made a ZR2 for the 2500, that's awesome.
