Just purchased a new 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sport with the 2.0L Turbo and automatic transmission. I have 2,000 miles on it at this point and have noticed several things which I am not sure are issues or not.
1. after turning the vehicle off there are loud “pings” coming from underneath, often lasting 5 minutes or more.
2. when starting the vehicle, even a second or third time while running errands and it is warm, there is quite a bit of white smoke coming from the exhaust.

Took the Jeep in for first oil change at 2k miles and mentioned both things to the dealership. They said the pinging is natural sound of a turbo engine as it cools and that the white smoke is natural as the vehicle starts/warms.

My last Jeep was a 6 paired with a manual and I have no experience with this engine. Normal when new or an issue?

All this said, the 2.0 has a ton of pep and love driving it other than concerns listed about.

Does it smell like something’s burning?

My exhaust is often fairly cloudy when I first start my Jeep (2022 2.0T), but it goes away after the engine warms up. I wouldn’t say it resembles smoke, though and definitely doesn’t smell like smoke. I believe in my case it’s just moisture leaving the exhaust. I have a lot more of it in colder weather, likely due to condensation from the exhaust heating/cooling.

Don't have the 2.0, but I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to be smoke. Pretty cold in Rochester right now, that's why I asked.

Congratulations on your new Jeep!

1. The pinging is completely normal, its usually due to the contraction in in the metal in your exhaust as it cools. It will be the loudest towards the back of the vehicles.

2. The tiny drain hole in your muffler is prone to getting plugged up due to dirty/debris/ice. When that happens, condensation can pool and collect in your exhaust/muffler. When you start up the engine, it will boil that water off as white steam.

Usually white smoke is a sign of coolant intrusion but given the age of your car, the above-mentioned scenario is much more likely. However, out of abundance of caution, you should check the coolant levels on the main coolant reservoir (the black plastic bottle near engine firewall) to make sure you aren't losing coolant.

If it smells sweet, then you're burning coolant, but my guess is it's just the rich nature of a turbocharged engine upon start-up to get the catalytic converter up to operating temperature as quickly as possible.

Pinging is definitely normal white smoke nit so much.
Agreed. My pinging sounds like it's coming from further back so I had always assumed the catalytic converter was the cause of the ping. I've never noticed smoke or vapor, though.

Jeep tech here and I have to say the sound after shut off is normal. The white Smoke is normal for the first few minutes.

You can always drop some up dye in the coolant , and then check the oil for us dye.

The pinging is as stated, normal. Usually it's the various heat shields cooling. As they cool the thin metal contracts and ticks/pings. Vehicles have been doing this for at least around 30 years.

As for the white smoke, do as suggested. Keep an eye on it and your coolant level.
